The bed was very comfortable, warm, and the room itself had everything you could need. However the main highlight is the owner, Philippe. I got stranded in Didcot Parkway after getting the wrong train and booked this property to spend a night. I was very upset for other reasons and he could tell when I confirmed over the phone. he made sure I got into the room safely, was extremely kind, and welcoming and made me feel so much better. he even checked in on me the next day to make sure I had checked out okay and made it to the train. made a bad situation much better by just being an incredibly friendly host. thank you!

It wasn’t expensive and suited my needs for a short stay. The owner met me and couldn’t have been nicer. Very welcoming. It was a short walk to the train station and a further five minutes had you at the shops and cinema.

The buildings on site are well-renovated and breathed history, framed by a canal and a river active with boats. We stayed in the main lodge, which had a large lobby, restaurant and bar. The two rooms we stayed in had character and space, were comfortable, and had large windows overlooking well kept gardens. The staff were amazingly helpful, attentive and friendly. The breakfast was superb. Great location too, two blocks from town, where there were many choices for food and drink. A perfect setting for a wonderful holiday.

The Chequers at Burcot had an excellent restaurant, with a delicious menu and wine list, set in a character filled, thatch-roofed building. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the location was convenient for us. The owners (I presume) were very friendly and hospitable, and we were offered a welcome drink to enjoy by the fire, before dinner. Although our trip was for work, staying at The Checkers was a treat that made us feel like we were on a holiday. We liked it so much, we stayed a second night.

    Everywhere was well kept, no litter anywhere.

    Everywhere was well kept, no litter anywhere. People seemed to be very happy. The Railway Museum needs more signage ! There is a little sign pointing to a massive car park and you are expected to find your way to the museum from there. Great experience once we got there.

    Didcot is a handy location and relatively close to Oxford.

    Didcot is a handy location and relatively close to Oxford. It has a good range of shops as well as places to eat and a cinema. There are also lots of parks and some areas to walk. I cooked myself and there are lots of good supermarkets to get fresh as well as precooked foods for easy meals.

    Didcot Railway Centre is a must-visit when in the town.

    Didcot Railway Centre is a must-visit when in the town. A great way to experience Didcot's railway heritage in historic buildings and artefacts from the Great Western Railway. Visit during a Steam Day to experience a ride behind a preserved steam locomotive in vintage carriages!

    Good location, right price but needs more attention to...

    Good location, right price but needs more attention to details. No outside light, shower floor slippy, no chopping board or bread knife. No operating manual for microwave. Batteries dead in clock and dying in tv remote and smoke alarm.

    I used to live in Didcot several years ago it was interesting to see how it has changed. Good location for visiting Reading & Oxford also we went to Windsor on the train it is very close to Didcot.

    Lovely cosy cabin located behind the main house. Nice comfortable beds and pillows. Great to sit out on the veranda drinking sangria after dinner. Only five minutes walk to Indian and Chinese takeout. Ten minutes walk to Sainsbury’s local. Surrounded by nice mature trees even saw a pair of Red Kites hovering over head. Not far off main road yet had a really quiet and dark nights sleep. Definitely recommend, so much nicer than staying in a hotel as we had the outdoor space.

    Who would believe that you would find this little gem just off the main road and yet not hear any traffic at all, perfect location for the Drayton Golf Course, clean, comfortable, so much better than a hotel room as you have everything you need to cook a meal and enjoy it on the porch.

    Lovely road in 'Old Didcot'. All things one might need seem to be thought of. Smart TV is a rarely found honus. Totally self-contained including own driveway from the quiet road. Easy walk to shops, railway station and places to eat.
