Question to what did we like? That would be everything! From the first moment of check in to our departure. We would more than highly recommend a stay at the Avoca Hotel. Not only for its amazing location directly across from the Irish Sea and walking distance to experience a lot of Newcastle and access to surrounding sites, but to its most amazing staff! The hotel is so very inviting and offers a very unique environment that can only enhance your visit to Newcastle. The hotel itself and the rooms are very clean with all necessary amenities provided. Tastefully decorated with attention to its upkeep which will only add to your Northern Irland experience. Upon our arrival and settling into our initial room with Annie at reception, we were aware of rooms that had a little seating area in a bay window that faced the sea to which we did not have. With a request to have that window seating Annie graciously took the time to let us view other rooms. Although nothing was available that night, Annie further left messages to our requests for her manager Nicola that may be addressed the next day. To our utter delight Siobhan at reception showed us a most spectacular room with a sea view and large bay window seating area to which they could accommodate us moving to. Siobhan said that they want everyone to be the happiest they could be with their stay at the Avoca Hotel. A true testimonial to that! Beyond that, the breakfast was wonderful with a variety of options for both food and coffee/tea and served with a smile and warmth from Jack. A wonderful way to start your day! And then after a full day of sight seeing you can return to the hotel and enjoying a cocktail at the well stocked bar served by the friendliest staff to include Leona, Mohit and Injaz before preparing for your evening out. We cannot say enough about the Avoca Hotel. We had an amazing stay in Newcastle and praise manager Nicola and her team in being a major factor in that!!!

We both ate out and visited a local public house and experienced great food in the Seafood Bar along with excellent service and the local bar was warm and inviting. The Town obviously stamps itself very well in art displays and dressing the trees, proved very interesting. Always appeared clean and lively, with good local walks and a with great scenic points.

There is a superb chef now running the Bucks Head in Dundrum. He left one of the top restaurants in Belfast to move closer to home. The food is superb. Then you have the awesome views of the Mournes. Finally you have overnight accommodation and live entertainment in the beautiful Dundrum Inn with friendly staff, a comfortable bed and a delicious breakfast. Weekends don’t get any better.

Dundrum is a fabulous village to stay in.

Dundrum is a fabulous village to stay in. Local restaurants are great - Mourne seafood has amazing quality and Dundrum Inn couldn't be more accommodating for meals/parties. Murlough is a beautiful place to visit - a golden beach with the Mournes in the background and the castle is beautiful. Not far from Belfast and Strangford Loch, it's a great place to stay.

Dundrum is a great small town.

Dundrum is a great small town. The pubs and restaurants are within easy access of Rooms@Mourne. The supermarkets and coffee shops also on the doorstep. Also Dundrum has great walks in walking distance which is great plus within in a 30 min drive there is a wide choice of other walks - mostly dog friendly.

The accessibility to Newcastle, the Murlough National Nature Reserve, Castlewellan, the beach and the mountains all within walking/cycling distance. A couple of slight negatives, one is the lack of bike racks to lock our bikes to as we bring them with us every time and it would be nice to know that we had somewhere secure to lock them and secondly, the state of the water as the last time I swam there around the back of Rooms@Mourne in mid October 2022 there were dead crabs and brown foam floating pass me, which I don't think bodes well for water quality so perhaps the local council could do water testing to enable swimmers to make an informed choice as to whether or not to get in as it could be a fabulous asset to the town for both visitors and residents alike if they felt it was safer to swim there.

Dundrum is a small village outside of Newcastle but is well serviced with public transport. Although small there are a number of restaurants and bars, plus a garage beside the accommodation which socks everything you might need for a short stay. Within 50 minutes from Belfast it’s the perfect place to come to relax and take in the beautiful views across Dundrum bay. Can’t wait to go back at New Year!
