We were leaving very early for airport so Naomi organised us a packed lunch instead of breakfast & the night porter made them up for us. Perfect for the plane. Our room was a twin, Naomi immediately asked would we prefer a double. Dinner was excellent.

I arrived to be with friends to attend the funeral of our Chiefy of so many years ago. The hotel staff, from reception to departure understood our needs in every way. The hotel rooms--dinning, bar, private reception all exceeded my expectation. My bedroom was of a very good size with a large double bed so comfortable that, each night, I slept well beyond my normal 4 hours. The shower was in the bath which wasn't a problem for me but maybe some would prefer a 'walk in' style. I'm sure this would be available if requested. Reception were most helpful with each request and there was always a smile along with the answers. Breakfast included a wide choice from continental to kippers and beyond. I settled for a full fry up which again well exceeded any expectations I had. For myself, I don't often 'dine in', preferring instead to explore local restaurants. However this time, with friends we booked a table for both nights and all of us expressed our delight in the quality and wide choice available. A wide choice of wines too with many countries represented. As with all dinning establishments, I don't appreciate the un-called-for high mark up on wine at the table. It seems to be a practice which can take the edge off of a very pleasurable dinning experience for me. That said, I would recommend dinning in at this hotel. After dinner drinks at the bar which included a fantastic choice of malts would satisfy any pallet. I could not fault this hotel and can confidently recommend it to all. A ten out of ten for me.

For history buffs, Dunfermline is a must visit location. The Abbey is the resting place for Robert the Bruce and really is the location for the early history of Scotland with Margaret, David and William Wallace. Recommend visiting early in your historical journey through Scotland or last as we did to complete your understanding of Scottish history. The town is nice, too. Plenty of restaurants. Easy to navigate. Great place to stay the night before your flight from EDI.

Dunfermline has so much to offer people of any age.

Dunfermline has so much to offer people of any age. Its location, within easy distance of Edinburgh but near to many beautiful and historic coastal towns, villages and beaches, is ideal. Great public transport links to all of these. But Dunfermline itself has lots to see and do so don't miss the palace, the abbey, and Pittencrieff Park and its children's play park (just for starters). We were there on beautiful sunny day and we could have stayed for much longer. All of this was free of charge, which, on a trip with children is a bit of a bonus. There are good shops in town too, albeit the usual suspects. There may be some great independents but we weren't shopping and didn't notice. We didn't eat in town but there seemed to be lots of places from which to choose.

A great smaller city with much to see, especially the Abbey and birthplace/museum of Andrew Carnegie. There is an amazing Tiffany stained glass window in the Abbey - well worth a view. And the Pittencrieff Park is also great for a stroll with a grand view. The Granary restaurant in the library is very good for interesting food at low prices.

The City Hotel is central to the town itself, I would say most of the obvious sights…. Carnegie museum, park, Abbey very close; it’s about 20 minutes walk from Dunfermline City station which is itself right on the edge of town but there appears a good supply of taxis. The room was small but only intended for one, reasonably well appointed, excellent breakfast options with room including Scottish Breakfast. Nice bar and restaurant area but I didn’t get to try these on a single stay. 24 hour check in.

We were attending a concert at Murrayfield and was a lot cheaper staying in Dunfermline (about a 25 min drive) Great and quiet location and friendly staff. Didn’t use facilities as out most of the time. Easy to access hotel after hours. Fast wi-fi. Comfy and clean room. The entrance to the driveway to the hotel does creep up on you but as they say just look out for Arnold Clark’s and it’s opposite it and has a sign to the hotel. Asda and McDonald’s just round the corner.

It is located very close to Dunfermline City train station, so easy to access by foot. The interiors are spacious and comfortable. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The interior of our room had a “homely” feel not typically found in hotels. The food served was excellent too. Finally, it is also very reasonably priced.
