Beautiful old pub with lovely hosts. The room was bright, comfortable.and very quiet.The bar, although not open yet (plans are to open soon) has character and is cosy , we were lucky enough to sit by the fire. The owners are very welcoming and couldn’t be more helpful. Breakfast was a fantastic with a variety of options. A perfect spot to stay not far off the highway. A must are Kathy’s Ecclefechan tarts!

Great little hotel, had a very convenient and comfortable stopover travelling from Scotland: easy access from/to motorway, plenty of parking space, comfortable room, topping it all with the delicious full scottish breakfast. Special thanks to very friendly and helpful staff. Great Wi-Fi too :-)

Jo's house is simply wonderful. Very spacious, lovely decorated, equipped with everything we needed and with a wonderful, beautiful garden. Jo was also a wonderful host, and provided us with everything we needed (refreshments, toys for my kid, information about places to eat and things to do...). The breakfast was fantastic, too, with lots of options and very tasty. I would absolutely stay again and recommend it without reservation.

Ecclefechan has a museum based in Thomas Carlyle's birthplace which is worth visiting. Nearby is the Devil's Porridge Museum which details life and events at MOD Gretna Green explosives factory. Also the coastline is very pretty.

Ecclefechan itself is not very exciting, however it is a good position to start from to appreciate the surrounding countryside. It is also very convenient position to quickly get quickly on your way wherever your next stop is/

Ecclefechan itself is a bit of a ghost town very tired...

Ecclefechan itself is a bit of a ghost town very tired looking centre just a small general store.We went to eat at the Cressfield hotel on outskirts of village by caravan site.We ate there and would reccommend their evening meals.Ecclefechan is in quite a good position to see some of the surrounding countryside and coast.

Clean comfortable made very welcome , felt too many dont’s in conversation and didn’t like a note being put on bed we were not using after being told not to use empty bed , down side had to travel into Gretna for food to bring back , many more information on that would be useful but I also didn’t ask , have to say thank you for letting us leave a bit later to go to wedding

A very good host and attentive staff.

A very good host and attentive staff. A great breakfast to start your day off, and was a good base to visit gretna green and dumfries and on to castle douglas. Then back to hotel for a nice drink, food and comfy bed.

Lovely Hotel, 400 years old and lots of character, very friendly, regular bus service to Lockerbie, Annan, Gretna and Carlisle. We had a great adventure. Hotel was very friendly and we loved our stay. The food was good pub grub and the hotel was lovely as was the room. We had a beautiful on suite. A big comfy bed. Absolutely no complaints at all and we shall go back. Thank you Mary and our lovely barmaid Karen. Nothing was too much trouble.

From start to finish, the staff at Ecclefechan Hotel were fantastic. Friendly, helpful, accommodating, they went above and beyond on several locations to make our 5-day trip exceptional every day. We shall definitely be back on grounds off hospitality alone, not to mention the size of the room (we opted for budget, which was still spacious), the cosiness of the furnisbings and the location itself.

Very clean and well -appointed ensuite room in a block of 3 at a farm location. Good WiFi and TV. Good emailed instructions for access. Excellent value for money and a nice alternative to our usual motorway service station hotel overnight stays between Aberdeen and Lancashire.

Such a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff in this family run hotel. The room had everything we needed and the bed was comfy. Most importantly it was warm as we were staying on the coldest night for a decade. The breakfast was very good.

A nicely appointed hotel and room oozing individuality. Attentive staff who were always on hand and happy to help. Excellent breakfast with good choice and enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant. No hesitation in staying again when in the area.
