FAQs about hotels in Edinburgh

A Feast for the Senses

A city of heritage, heart and of course Hogmanay, Scotland’s capital is vibrant and edgy. Whether or not you come for one of its many festivals, Edinburgh is quite simply a feast for the senses.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

Wandering the streets, the smell of fish and chips wafts by, with the unique twist of salt ‘n’ sauce – a must-try variation on this favourite dish. Follow it up with a smooth whisky and you’ll start to feel like a local.

For a taste of Scottish culture, a kilt-wearing busker often plays the bagpipes on Waverley Bridge, while traditional folk music can be heard in some Old Town pubs. Complete your stay with a rugby match at Murrayfield or a round at one of the city’s 14 golf clubs, and you’ll have the true Edinburgh experience.

Whether you are looking for hotels near Edinburgh Airport or accommodations in the city center, Booking.com has a great range to choose from.

One of the most beautiful, scenic cities - on par with Paris for me. The lovely gothic cathedrals and buildings, check out the view from Carlton Hill, visit Clarinda's Tea Room for the best scones you'll ever have, go on a ghost tour, eat fish and chips from a pub - explore the lovely inspiration behind "Diagon Alley" and many other Harry Potter type locations. A fairy town, but in real life.

An incredibly beautiful city with so much character.

An incredibly beautiful city with so much character. I was in town for the rugby, and the atmosphere was electric, the whole city had an amazing buzz. It’s very walkable, and I managed to see a lot on foot. The hike up Arthur’s Seat was a highlight, offering stunning views over the city.

Amazing city to visit.

Amazing city to visit. The people are the friendliest and very helpful. Edinburgh has something for everyone - rich and interesting history, architecture, tours and fun experiences. The Islander experience was amazing. The ladies were helpful and fun. The cost was very reasonable and you get to leave with a fabulous bag. We were lucky to go on a couple of tours - The Edinburgh Castle and Loch Lomond, Kelpies and Stirling Castle. Both were great value for money and the tour guides were absolutely amazing!

Edinburgh is, without a doubt, one of my favourite cities in...

Edinburgh is, without a doubt, one of my favourite cities in the world — a place that feels like stepping into a storybook. Every corner has a soul, every street whispers history. From the cobblestones of the Old Town to the elegance of the Georgian New Town, the city is a seamless blend of past and present. There’s something almost magical about the way the mist rolls over the castle in the early morning, or how the light turns golden at sunset along Princes Street. The atmosphere is both mysterious and comforting — it’s a city that feels alive, yet calm; ancient, yet full of creative energy. Walking through the narrow closes, you can almost feel the centuries of stories that have unfolded there. Cafés tucked away in quiet courtyards, traditional pubs with live music, and the ever-present scent of rain mixed with roasted coffee make every stroll feel cinematic. Arthur’s Seat offers one of the most breathtaking views you could ever imagine — standing there, with the wind on your face and the whole city spread out below, it’s impossible not to fall in love. The people are warm and genuine, the food scene surprisingly vibrant, and the city itself seems designed to inspire. Whether you’re exploring ancient castles, browsing vintage shops, or simply sitting by the Water of Leith watching the world go by, Edinburgh has a way of capturing your heart quietly, deeply, and forever. It’s not just a city you visit — it’s a place you feel.

A Fantastic City, steeped in History.

A Fantastic City, steeped in History. From Gothic type Buildings to the Castle, Edinburgh is a very Classy City that we Enjoyed Immensely. Full of character and the people are Extremely Warm and Helpful. Id Highly recommend a Castle Visit, but booking early is necessary to avoid disappointment. We also took in the Edinburgh Dungeons tour. A Med-evil role play Show takes you through the Dark Ages of the City. Eating in Edinburgh has something for everyone. The vast array of Restaurants, Cafes and Fast food Outlets caters for all Culinary needs. An Overall amazing Experience I'd highly recommend to anyone

I know Edinburgh well , but on this trip I visited two places new to me . I toured the castle and used the audio guide . I recommend the castle as a good place to visit . The views are terrific . I also did a tour of the Johnnie Walker visitor centre on Princes street . This may be a bit pricey for some , my tour was £45.00 ( £4.50 off for over 60's , my category ), but I thought that it was good enough value . It lasted an hour and I tasted 6 different whisky brands . The building is very impressive , the staff are attentive and knowledgeable , and there is an upmarket bar on the top floor .

Beautiful family-run boutique hotel above The Canny Man Pub. Very comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Super friendly staff. Breakfast at the pub was amazing, loved the selection of hot breakfast choices and continental buffet breakfast. The baguette and croissants were the best I ever had! Quiet location in Morningside with easy access by bus to Edinburgh city centre and beyond. The immediate neighbourhood offers a lot of little shops and restaurants. Highly recommend a stay at The Lane Hotel!

Great to have a bus stop at the bottom of the drive to get into city centre. Uber available in the area. The room was clean, comfortable and with no problems decorative wise at all. Getting used to the levels of the hotel was challenging but amusing. Pity the pool was out of action and a few language barriers with some staff, but nothing that wasn’t overcome. I will definitely be staying here again when I next visit Edinburgh! Thank you!

Quiet relaxed environment. Perfect after the vibrance of the city centre. Have enjoyed many city breaks to Edinburgh. And the Malmaison is now our favourite spot For all the right reasons.
