The accommodation was excellent, in particular, the ensuite. A beautiful log fire welcomed me and a pint of local ale. The food was all locally sourced and I opted for traditional ham and eggs. The Woolpack is situated at the head of Eskdale and is completely off the beaten track. Will be returning in the future.

Very good place for a getaway. Great facilities and close to most of the important attractions around Eskdale. Instructions left at the check in counter were detailed and quite helpful to get us settled in. We stayed in a massive double family room and it was great. Comfy and cozy. The shared kitchen has everything you would need to be self sufficient and the surrounding gardens are great for a stroll. There are a few pubs and inns down the road past the railway station that offer a great selection of food and drink if you need. We would recommend booking in advance towards the evening as they get busy quickly towards the end of the day to avoid any disappointment. As the hosts state, unless you are a confident driver I would not recommend using the shorter route through the passes to get to Ambleside. It may be shorter but takes roughly just as long to get to Ambleside as you need to drive carefully. Steep climbs and descents along the mountains may be difficult for some vehicles to handle. Gorgeous drive through (we managed to get around Hardknott Pass and just drive through Wrynose Pass to get to Ambleside).

A big thank you for offering clean and comfy accomodation and great food to walkers in a remote and beautiful location. You make such a difference to walking and staying in the Duddon Valley :))) and helping me to do the Wainwrights (Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Green Crag) on foot.

So comfortable, really friendly staff and very traditional place, with tons of character. Breakfast was fab. Location was brilliant but it was a lot cheaper than the inns at Wasdale head yet only a few minutes drive away. Loved it. Will go back again.

Lovely area, don't expect lots of excitement, but it's great for nature lovers! All inns offer food and it's of great quality - very tasty and at good price overall. Beware, you'll need good boots and clothes to walk around, the road is used by lots of cars, so pay attention to that. You will need a car to get farther than the nature walks - e.g. Eskadale proper or a city. I recommend it for reconnecting with nature and with your significant other. It also works for tiring children and dogs out as well. Good for lots of exercise, but not for slimming (see the food part above).

I can't fit this on a simple review.

I can't fit this on a simple review. If you like the great outdoors just go and explore. One of my favourite spots in Cumbria. No lake, but it makes up for this in scenery and crystal clear mountain streams.

Ganny cottage was the perfect choice for a relaxing weekend away with our dog. There are so many amazing walks from the doorstep and there are some lovely dog friendly pubs in Boot which you can find on foot. The food and service in the Brook house Inn was great. We Recommend the Stanley Ghyll waterfall, it was spectacular, and only a short walk from the cottage.

We loved it! A bit of a 'ghost hotel' with check in done over the phone, but that suited us just fine. We loved the peace and quiet and the fact we could bring and cook our own food in the ample and very well outfitted kitchen. Beautifully decorated and stunning views! Also they were kind enough to provide us with a late checkout for a smallish fee. We had a fabulous time and hope to come back some day...

Well equipped and clean apartment. Recently renovated. Great location in beautiful Eskdale Valley. Pub staff are friendly and pub good value food if you don't want to cook. Selection of local beers, pool table, games, and big TV in pub. Fabulous location for visiting waterfalls, Hardknott Roman Fort, Ravenglass and Eskdale railway, or a long but scenic walk up to Scafell Pike.

The floorboards creaked upstairs. The mattresses and pillows could be better. Kitchen fine but otherwise property was tired. It was waterlogged outside and so could not let dogs out on grass. Did not eat at hotel.
