FAQs about hotels in Fort William

In the Shadow of Ben Nevis

Fort William is shadowed by Great Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, and lies on the shores of pretty Loch Linnhe. The Scottish Highland’s 2nd biggest city attracts hordes of hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, enhancing its self-proclaimed reputation as the ‘outdoor capital of Scotland’.

In the city centre, on High Street, is the West Highland Museum that explains local Highland history. The West Highland Way is a famous, long-distance walking route that begins and ends just outside Fort William.

The Nevis Range ski centre and Nevis Range gondola provides a stunning view of the Great Glen. A downhill mountain-biking track also begins here. This breath-taking track has hosted numerous world cups as well as the 2007 World Championships. Stop along the way to try the local whiskey at Ben Nevis Distillery.

Named after William of Orange, Fort William has been home to the Clan Cameron for many generations. Booking.com invites you to soak up the outdoor highlights and history of this charming city and surrounding countryside with its extensive range of hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses.

For the purpose of my visit, Fort William was central to the areas that I was requiring to go to. Within the town there was plenty of choice for dining and shopping facilities if required. For those who wish to visit local landmarks, such as the Glenfinnan viaduct, and monument, or the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge, or for the more adventurous hill walking around Glencoe, Fort William should be considered as a base to make your plans.

Fort William was a characterful town which has been taken over by Non Scottish commercial traders. Few of the establishments visited, whether shops or eateries were manned by staff of Scottish descent. A greater scottish representation in the service industries would serve the tourist industry better. I accept that this may be a problem if Scots do not apply for positions within their communities.

Enjoyed going to a Small Christmas Market in The Hope Hub.

Enjoyed going to a Small Christmas Market in The Hope Hub. Love going to Highland Soaps Factory Shop. The staff there are so helpful. Enough quality shops and cafes to suit me. The Drive up is a big thing for me is a biggy. I adore going through Glencoe at anytime of year. Happy family memories.

We were only in Fort William for one night and stayed at the Lime Tree Hotel. We bought first class tickets for the Jacobite train and loved the experience. The view along the route was more than picturesque. Served tea and biscuits in a very comfortable setting during the ride. The train brought us out to the small village of Mallaig. There is an amazing seafood restaurant "The Crab and Creel" that is a must to stop at. We had an amazing lunch. We ordered the Langoustines and Mussels for starters, then the Scallops and Salmon dishes for the main, all while eating by the fireplace. I just can't say enough about what an amazing lunch we had there. I wish I had had more time to explore Fort William.

Fort William is a lovely little town with a beautiful Loch, it is a bit touristy for my liking but there are so many wonderful things to do in or near by that it is well worth a stay here. The museum in the town is a treat, Inverlochy castle is a little treasure. The Nevis range cable car is a must, the views at the top are breathtaking and not to be missed. Also nearby is The Glenfinnan monument & viaduct, again absolutely beautiful views & an absolute must. There is more but we had a limited time.

A friendly place.

A friendly place. The museum is great and the old fellow who greets you was lovely, and informative. The shops were good and interesting. The Volunteer pub was brilliant. Cozy Cafe was lovely. The free church had a lovely little cafe, tea and cake, very welcoming people. It all felt safe, and easy to find somewhere to have a good time.

Situated in the heart of Fort William with free parking, although limited capacity. The room was very well decorated, reasonably spacious (considering its original purpose, no bars on the window though), comfortable large bed. The breakfast was very good but very busy at peak times involving waiting for a table. There is a bar which doubles as Reception. The coffee machine in the bar/dining room area offers free coffee which tasted the best we ever experienced in Scotland. The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful.

The hotel has upmarket decor, with easy access to Fort William town centre. The family room was spacious and had a large shower. Jhan and Rose Ann, the hotel staff that i interacted with at the evening meal and breakfast, are a credit to the hotel. It is a must stay if visiting Fort William for a break. Would have given the hotel a 11 rating, but 10 is the highest number available.

We chose this hotel mainly for its proximity to Ben Nevis. We were greeted very warmly by the friendly receptionist, who couldn't have been more helpful and is a real credit to the hotel. We ordered the packed lunches for our walk up Ben Nevis and the sandwiches were very tasty. Parking was plentiful and easy and it was an easy drive into Fort William.
