Pleasant and quaint little village surrounded by beautiful countryside and rolling hills. Plenty of walks. A small number of little shops and cafes. A must if require to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern, everyday living.

A small sleepy village not far off the A75 road so easy to get to. Lovely scenery near by, the sea with an amazing beach. Very pretty scenery. The village has a few restaurants and a few gift shops and a couple of galleries to browse. A very small supermarket. A couple of good pubs with the Masonic Arms selling real beer. Walking routes and good cycling for the strong hearted. Oh and an ice cream parlour for the lovers of ice cream that’s open seven days a week!

Stayed at The Ship Inn for 4 nights for a wildlife photography workshop and then my partner came up and we stayed at Annabelle’s Den for a week. Gatehouse is really quaint. Excellent ice cream shop and two good coffee shops at Galloway Lodge and The Mill on the Fleet. Small Spar shop for supplies but much better choice in Tesco’s in Castle Douglas if self catering. Castle Douglas also has the nearest petrol station. Food at The Ship is very good with a modern restaurant open to residents and non-residents. There is lots to see and do in the area and it makes a great base from which to explore the area

Very pretty little town, with a village shop and supermarket, Visitor Centre with riverside cafe and local history displays and second hand book shop, local crafts etc. Three good restaurants. Everyone very friendly. You can walk to the woods in a couple of minutes. Close to the sea. The forests, mountains and lochs are also easily accessible - just a short drive away. Terrific views.

This is a lovely part of the country.

This is a lovely part of the country. Great for people who get outdoors with amazing views and lovely beaches. The little town is quaint, not much in it, as in shops but there are a number of eating and drinking places. We ate in the Murray arms and it was fabulous. Lovely food with beautiful decor and excellent service.

We were attending a wedding nearby. The start of this event was 13.30 and we have to travel a fair distance to get there. We asked for early entry to our room for changing purposes and the hotel management came up with the goods. Really appreciated that gesture. The room was well decorated and clean the the bed extremely comfortable.

The bathroom especially the shower tap wasn't clean It was disgusting what we found. And also the 2 shairs in the room was very dirty. We stayed in room 58. The first impression was very good old hotel with historie, but I think cleaniness is very important It was in the end very disappointing Location ist top.

I recently sent some of our employees to stay at your hotel as part of a 7-night tour across different locations. They unanimously agreed that The Ship Inn stood out above the rest. They described it as smart, clean, comfortable, and exceptionally welcoming, a truly outstanding place to stay!
