The room was big with a huge comfortable bed, and the calefaction worked adequately. It had a kettle for tea, tea, and some biscuits too. The manager/owner was super friendly, and even though I am a Latin American traveller, I felt welcome in this little sleepy town in Northumbria. The food was a big plus. They served strong coffee and a full English breakfast, and they even had options for vegetarians! You can reserve a lunchbox for your adventures in the Footpaths of Hadrian's Wall for 10 pounds. The dinner was over the top. It was a big portion and cooked on the spot. It felt like a 5-star restaurant. I have the opportunity to return to do the Hadrian's Wall walk, I'll return to this hotel.

This is by a long stretch the nicest B&B I've ever stayed at in a beautiful part of the world! We received such a friendly welcome from Ian yesterday when we arrived: he told us everything we needed to know. The room was comfortable, clean, well decorated, quiet, with lots of teas/coffees – a big bonus! The communal spaces were extremely comfortable with everything you could need. We met Kate, who is equally friendly/lovely, the following morning when she served us an absolutely scrummy breakfast (cooked by Ian): fruits, homemade granola, orange & apple juice, toast, and a few cooked options. I had a delicious rosti, porcini mushroom with goat's cheese, spinach and perfect scrambled eggs. This was the perfect start to a long day walking. If I boiled it down I suppose I think the Old School House has all the benefits of a traditional B&B (the warmth, homeliness, friendliness) with none of the downsides (rooms feel very private, the standards are extremely professional). If I could always stay somewhere like this when I go away, I would! There are so many details throughout which speak to the care and thoughtfulness with which Kate and Ian run this place, and their flexibility and generosity (i.e. Ian offered us a lift to the point in Hadrian's Wall where we'd stopped off) is outstanding. We can only thank Kate and Ian for such amazing hospitality! Can't wait to return in the future - hopefully before too long!

Absolutely perfect experience staying at Belfield House. Communication and instructions from Phil and Helen were positive and detailed, making everything easy for us. The room itself is excellent. Large, comfortable and with a very good bathroom. Perfect night’s sleep in the comfy bed. Everything has been thought of to make the stay enjoyable - the fridge, ground coffee, fresh milk, water, bathroom items, quality towels. Good heating, and a fan if needed. Overall, a faultless accommodation.

Very comfortable flat with all facilities. Quiet even though on main road. Perfect location for meals, generous snacks and breakfast stuff provided. Short drive to the Roman forts and short walk across to Milecastle 42 and walks along the Wall.

Really handy for Hadrian's Wall, accessible by train and with a decent local bus service. This is a small town and busy in the summer, quiet in the winter, set in gorgeous countryside all year round. We had good food at the Manor House Inn. The local landscape and history are obviously the big draws here, if you can walk or cycle it's perfect country for it.

Lovely little town that is the centre of Britain. Full of character, great mix of small private businesses and larger chains. Excellent restaurants and pubs. Stay here to explore the width of Britain at it's narrowest part.

Great location in centre of Haltwhistle. Easy access and very clean. Facilities were perfect, even bottled milk in fridge instead of plastic. Highly recommend.
