    Kirkwall is worth visiting.

    Kirkwall is worth visiting. It is clean and tidy with local attractions worth visiting. It is a lovely town with all the facilities needed if exploring further afield is not your thing. Ferries to outlying islands are in the harbour with other ferry terminals being only a short distance away. Car hire is and worthwhile and makes exploring the island easy. There seems to be a very effective bus service in Kirkwall too, just an short walk from the centre.

    I liked St Magnus Cathedral, the Museum and also visited...

    I liked St Magnus Cathedral, the Museum and also visited the ruins of the Bishop's Palace and the Earls'. It was exceedingly useful to finally locate the bus terminal and utilise it to get to Scarabrae which was excellent, and has a lovely info centre and Cafe; and Skail House (total contrast) which was included in the admission ticket. The next day I went to Stromness to visit the Pier Gallery which was superb. Spent a Lovely day walking and enjoying the little Braes etc. A enjoyed Stromness very much. I was dismayed to find that the bus service didn't easily get me to other sites of interest, like the Italian chapel. Also Maeshoe (sp) was booked out for days. Very Happy to have visited Orkney, but it was challenging without a car

    Plenty to see and do.

    Plenty to see and do. Tourist shops and cafe’s quite expensive. A day at the beach costs nothing! We visited Newark beach. A treasure trove for shell or pebble collectors. The Kirk Gallery & Cafe was the perfect place for my birthday brunch.

    We enjoyed walking round the town and visited the Cathedral, which was really fascinating. We found a little cafe very close by on the right side of the Cathedral as you face it, we had delicious coffee and scones there! There is so much to do and see in Orkney, we needed much longer

    Great centre for visiting all the sights,beaches shops & we were blessed with a sunny weeks weather.We loved the historic sights and The Neuk Hotel food was great value.If self catering The Brey has everything you could want.

    We visited off season and rented a car (from Drive Orkney - who were great and uniquely allow their cars off Orkney for a small surcharge). You do need to get around the island(s) and a car or organised tour is necessary. We are told peak season is very busy. We went in February, which could have been awful weather but we really lucked-out with cloudless blue skies and sunshine. The main island (mischievously named 'Mainland') has the most astonishing archaeology from the Neolithic (c.3500 BCE) to the Iron Age.

    Great base for exploring the amazing Orkney islands. Very good location for exploring Kirkwall too. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Two couples shared a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. Staff were friendly and bought us a fan as it was warm while we were there. We had 2 separate stays while in the Orkneys 2 nights apart and the hotel was happy to look after luggage for us. Dining room menus and breakfast was average.

    The hotel was an excellent choice as far as access to the ferries, restaurants and the centre of Kirkwall. There was as a free car park at an easy walking distance down by the harbour. The restaurant onsite was very good and there was provision in the breakfast room for an early start eg ferry/airport departure. Very friendly and accommodating staff.

    Great hotel in a great location,, always my first go to for booking lodgings on Kirkwall when travelling with work, though is often busy so not always room. Good hotel with good food and a nice bar. Have been accommodating when needing later check outs etc.

    The room was huge and really clean. The house is at 3min drive to Kirkwall town, very convenient. We unfortunately couldn't try the "real" breakfast because we had an early ferry, but the host left us a nice to go breakfast that was more than ok.
