Loads to do if you've got plenty of money. Very historic.

Loads to do if you've got plenty of money. Very historic. Castle is a tour guide only which put us off. City museum is £8pa. Restaurants are all super expensive. There are no cheapy cafes to get breakfast or toast. Mobile data performance is dreadful, very poor. Loads of good pubs though. Okay for a short break. Any longer and you'll be bankrupt.

Its very sad how the town has continued to decline.

Its very sad how the town has continued to decline. Pubs shut, shops dominated by pop ups, charity stores etc. The council demolished the market many vears ago and there is no longer a heart to the town. Gateway to the Lakes and home to the massively expanded Lancaster University there doesnt seem to be much else to reccomend it on a wet October day.

Lovely, historic city with plenty to see. Compact city centre and easy to walk to all of the main attractions. The castle is highly recommended. Forest of Bowland National Landscape is easy access from Lancaster, has beautiful scenery and well worth a visit.

Some impressive old buildings in the city centre, and a lively shopping area without the (sad) usual proportion of empty shops. With more time, we would visit the Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales (both of which we know and appreciate well) and Bowland, which is unexplored territory for us and conveniently close. Looking forward to re-visiting our granddaughter and perhaps in spring/summer showing her some of these places.

There seems to be a lot going on in Lancaster ie a Jazz Festuival and Films to watch at the Duke's Theatre. A Really a nice break for me as I am a film and music buff. This was my 2nd stay over this Summer and Autumn at the University this and once again the Bus Service was good and this helped me get about. I would recommend a meal at The Pendel Witch Pub very reasonable cost and helpful staff.

This is not a regular well known hotel brand, it is quirky and utterly fabulous if you want to stay in a castle. There are no tv's in the room but there is a full size snooker table available for guests. You do need to retire to bed earlyish (9.30/10pm) so they can lock up the castle but we found this quite Agatha Christie! The food is great and loads of it (we had dinner and breakfast). Also great location for Lancaster University.

Check in and check out made very easy with the key safe system. Breakfast located quite nearby (sometimes in University accommodation it can be far away!) Recommend the woodland walk near to the accommodation. Food available in the Lancaster House hotel on the other side of campus (out of term time campus restaurants tend to close in the evenings).
