But the real prize was the magnificent, fully lined tweed drapes in the room -- an easily overlooked touch, but such exquisite fabric in a simple, cozy little hotel room, and such a Scottish touch, too! At least one night dnner was Michelin star worthy, and all meals were excellent.

My room was huge, well appointed and faced the river tweed and over the front entrance of the hotel. Breakfast buffet was nicely laid out and the breakfast room was lovely. This is an old historic hotel with the ruins of Dryburgh Abby over the rock wall on the boundary of the hotel. We had drinks before dinner in a comfortable sitting area outside the dining room where people were reading the newspaper and playing games.

Broomfield Country House is situated in a beautuful location. The owners are warm and friendly and ensure that you have a perfect stay. Their house is spotlessly clean. The garden bedroom is peaceful and secluded. On arrival, tea and shortbread served in the lovely garden was a welcome treat. The breakfast was amazing with an excellent selection of delicious food served in a cosy dining room complete with log fire. We would highly recommend this property.

A home away from home, it was a perfect stay for us. Jane was so welcoming when I arrived and it’s clear to see so much thought & attention has gone into Mill Cottage Garden Studio. The bed was so comfy, we had everything we needed and it was a lovely private & relaxing place to stay. Melrose is a hidden gem in many ways, and this part of the country is often overlooked although it is very beautiful indeed. The town itself has plenty to offer, including a choice of restaurants and tourist attractions. A walk to the top of the Eildon Hill is a must if you are able.

Dryburgh Abbey is stunning. Melrose also a lovely setting.

Dryburgh Abbey is stunning. Melrose also a lovely setting. You need a car, but area is beautiful. Really interesting Bird Sanctuary near Lauder- good for children and adults. Our best place to eat was in Galashiels- a large Italian restaurant in the centre. Good for gluten free and generally lovely food-with delicious pastries.

Melrose is a very pretty, friendly little town with some lovely individual shops and some very nice restaurants within walking distance. We loved Seasons in nearby Gattonside and The Townhouse in Melrose. The Abbey well worth a visit and some lovely walks along the river Tweed.

We stayed for one night on way home and had a lovely evening meal followed by a really excellent breakfast, with waiter service. The borders of Scotland cannot be bettered for scenery and the hotel grounds by the side of the tweed river make an idyllic setting, ideal for a relaxing break.

One highlight of our trip was a visit to Abbotsford, Sir Walter Scott's home. The house and grounds are wonderful and the audio guides available make the man and house come alive! We highly recommend a stop here! Also the cafe and gift shop at Abbotsford are great.

A lovely little village in the Borders area with good eating...

A lovely little village in the Borders area with good eating options and lots of interesting sights in the area including Melrose Abbey, the Eildon Hills, Wallace Monument, Dryburgh Abbey and a great bookshop and cafe in nearby St Boswell. Burt's Inn does a great afternoon tea and an even better dinner. The locals were friendly and helpful as well. It was easy to navigate the area by car.

Central hotel in Melrose. On road parking within a few minutes walk off the hotel. We ate in the Brassiere which was reasonably priced. We were in room 9. Dated and faded furnishings but comfortable. The shower was over the bath which I don’t like as I am worried about slipping and they provided instructions as the shower temperature can be temperamental. The whole hotel would benefit from updating. The carpets up the stairs are very worn. Helpful staff.

The property was beautifully done out. It was clean, neat and tidy. The location was perfect as we had already booked a hotel about 50 yards further up the road for the following evening. We were so lucky to get this accomodation in such short notice. Would definitely recommend to others. The abbey is only a short distance away, just perfect. Melrose is a lovely lovely town and well worth a visit.

The location by the river Tweed and next to the Abbey was excellent. The hotel is grand yet relaxed, with lovely grounds. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was very good. The room was a little small, but very clean, quiet and comfortable. We would highly recommend the Dryburgh Abbey Hotel !
