Typical country village but with the catering facilities you tend to expect from a small town. Italian restaurant La Mensa is superb. Warning though, the hotels are not modern. Two National Trust properties to be recommended, Cragside is 5 minutes drive and Wallington is one of the NT's best kept secrets, an absolute gem. An ideal central spot for visiting all of Northumberland. A short drive from two spectacular beauty spots: the Northumbrian coast to the east and the National Park and Cheviots to the west. Two of the best castles in the country: Alnwick and Bamburgh both within 30 minutes drive, plus Scotland 40 minutes to the north and Newcastle 40 minutes to the south.

A picture postcard rural town, set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. A bustling high street with useful shops and a small Coop supermarket, some nice pubs and some takeaways. We enjoyed a really good fine dining meal at Bewick's. It's small so book early. We also loved the Anglers Arms, around 15 minutes southeast in Weldon Bridge. Very relaxed atmosphere in a busy dining room, with excellent food superbly served by expert staff. It really was that good in every way.

Rothbury is a beautiful Village in Northumberland.

Rothbury is a beautiful Village in Northumberland. The people are so friendly. There are plenty of places to go and visit that are not too far away. The drives out into the countryside are breathtaking.

Nice town. Not a good hotel experience at The Queens Head.

Nice town. Not a good hotel experience at The Queens Head. Too many "not availables" from the menu and were not told when we booked that this was the case. We settled for the only pie available - Venison-. It was hot but the pie crust was rock hard.Whenasked if the pie was OK the response was no and we're asked why we did not complain. Because there was nothing else on the menu we wanted to eat --everything was unavailable that we would have chosen. Breakfast was very good and the room was OK. No return for us though because of the dinner experience

Amazing place for a weekend getaway to relax, locals are very accepting and very inclusive of visitors. We love little Italy for food and coffee and the pubs are fantastic. Pots and paws always has something for me to take home and the walks are fantastic.

The cottage was cosy & warm, well equipped and very comfortable. It was beautifully decorated and had everything you could possibly need, plus a welcome pack which included a bottle of wine. Thank you Sally. Rothbury is lovely, with little independent gift shops, bakeries & delis and we had very reasonable & delicious meals at La Mensa and the Newcastle House Hotel. We visited beautiful Cragside and had some lovely walks too. Would definitely recommend The Old Telephone Exchange and would like to return soon.

We had a fantastic stay at the Haven. The location was tranquil but close to the centre of Rothbury with plenty of places to eat and drink or just take a stroll. The hosts were very friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome, and the food just great. I especially liked the pancakes, which came with chocolate sauce and fruit. The accommodation is very comfortable and well appointed. Rothbury is a fantastic place to stay it's vibrant, very friendly, and beautiful. What more can you ask for?

A lovely, clean, bright, warm, comfortable property, in a good location. Friendly host . The most comfortable bed I think we have ever slept in! All the facilities seemed brand new and of a good standard . We had privacy and yet, convenience of a short drive or walk into Rothbury which is absolutely delightful , as is the surrounding area . We extended our stay a further night as we didn’t want to come back ! Would definitely stay again.

The food was very good but arrangement at breakfast a bit disoganised. Hotel room was disgusting showerhead was filthy . The room smelt and decor and furniture needs replacing and over haul. The bedlinen and towels were clean the only good thing about room.. Even the milk on tray had gone off. We were reluctant to stay but as we had paid £89 we put up with it.... Local area is beautiful. But would not stay here again. Its a rip off.
