The Manor House Hotel is a charming property, with thoughtful, modern details in the rooms (direct USB connections for devices, for e.g.) and beautiful views, but what makes it truly exceptional is the team that runs it. Daniel and Beatrice were gracious and friendly hosts, but it was David who truly stood out, offering superlative, personalised service. We were a large group, including 4 teenagers, and both David and Steven were amazing in dealing with them. The adults in the group could truly relax and not worry about the kids as we could see that they were safe and well taken care of. The property also has an excellent fine dining restaurant on the premises, we had a fantastic dinner there and also great breakfasts. I must also commend the back-end staff, obviously the kitchen was brilliant, and housekeeping was spotless during our stay.

FAQs about hotels in Oban

Gateway to the Inner Hebrides

Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.

The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.

Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.

Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

Oban is great the seafood is a must (try the sea-food shack by the ferry), there is a good range of shops from handmade jewellery and fine wool clothing to charity shops, whisky shops and outdoor shops. The distillery and hot chocolate café are worth a visit as is a walk up the hill or along the shore to the castle.

Oban is a vibrant town with excellent facilities and much to do. It is well worth a visit and if you're a whisky lover visits to the distillery and the whisky shop are a must. A day trip to Mull is also a good bet.

Our first visit to Oban and we'll certainly be back.

Our first visit to Oban and we'll certainly be back. There are a huge choice of hotels (avoid The Columba) to suit all tastes and budgets and a great variety of excellent places to eat. We visited McCaig's Tower from where you get breath taking views of the town and the waters and islands beyond. The small but very informative War Museums is also well worth a visit. We took a ferry to the Isle of Mull and then the bus to Tobermory, but would probably take our car across next time so we could explore a bit more.

Oban is a great holiday destination.

Oban is a great holiday destination. The people, the restaurants, the seafood, the meat.. it's all top quality. (If you pick your restaurants carefully, The Olive Garden, The Waterfront... Ee-usk if you're selective... Cuan Mor maybe) There's an M&S Food Hall if you don't fancy cooking from scratch, Alba delicatessen is good too. Tesco for the basics but remember that, north of the border, there are no special deals on booze. Nicola stopped them. Special legislation! Wow! For long term parking you can use the Tesco car park if you go online and book it using the Yourparkingspace app. This is handy for the town. Lots of trips/tours are available if you look online, our favourite is the Three Isles.

Great location in Oban with the added benefit of private parking! On arrival the receptionist was pleasant and gave us the information we needed (bonus was the room was ready ahead of the check in time!). The room was small but had everything that we needed. Very clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom again was small but practical. Bar area in the hotel was nice, and overall the hotel was value for money.

The hotel was lovely. After climbing Ben Nevis, they upgraded us to a suite so I could have a bath! We also got a complimentary drink as our room wasn’t ready at 3pm. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful, Bath that over looked the water. The breakfast was one of the best! Easy walk into town and the Oban Inn Pub just 10 minute walk which was a great place for a drink.

Friendly staff, particularly Nathaniel who waited on us during dinner. Great food, nice location. It's an old hotel and perhaps some of the decor needs some level of updating but totally adequate for our needs. Room had a great view over the Oban and the sea. The lift wasn't working when we were there, which wasn't a particular problem for us.
