FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

Booked a 1.5hr Oxford City and University Walking Tour for 2pm through booking.com with Oxford Walking Tours. We were lucky to have a guide with only 4 travellers, but it could have been a bigger group. Thoroughly recommend this walk with Jonathon where we looked around Balliol college with the walk but also visited a huge bookshop and other locations. We could have stayed in Oxford much longer but enjoyed our relaxing one night stay and will try to visit again.

Nice for short break.

Nice for short break. A university city, so be prepared for some social challenges with a few younger people who are leaning acceptable social norms. A few of the cafe have seriously over inflated prices, rinsing tourists! There is a lot you can do for free and a bit of preparation helps. Park & ride is great.

There is so much green space and you can walk into Oxford along a tributary of the Thames into University Park. The buses are frequent if you prefer public transport, and it is easy to access from the airport and Victoria bus station as well as by train. There is a lot of history to explore with all the colleges (40 or so) and if you like music, many Evensongs to attend. The architecture is very varied. There are good shops and many ethnic restaurants to try.

The mythical city: go through the looking glass with Alice in Wonderland. Oxford is this wonderland. Dive into the heart of magic with Harry Potter. Finally, Oxford is above all a multitude of universities where there is always something to discover in its universities, its chapels, its places of worship: candlelight concerts, performances, theaters, talks, libraries, etc. It also has many parks, the Thames canals, etc. In short, Oxford, a cosmopolitan city for its students, its researchers, but it is also a city which breathes knowledge, history and magic...

The quintessential English city.

The quintessential English city. Perfect for those who love to wander around and admire the buildings from many different time periods but also have access to great shops and local restaurants! Both museums in town are excellent, but would highly recommend the Pitt Rivers museum. Its collection always makes me realize how similar humans are regardless of where in the world we live.

Just Oxford being Oxford.

Just Oxford being Oxford. Lovely place to visit been there many times. The walks, university or around the city are lovely. Botanic gardens a must visit. If new to Oxford take the tour bus to get a feel for the city. Lovely parks and walks along the river. Great eating and night life. Use park and ride frequent and lovely drivers. The covered market is not as varied as it used to be mostly eateries now, but there a loads of lovely restaurants. It is due to b refurbished soon so may not be open for a while, but if it is go there.

The hotel location is exactly in the heart of Oxford city centre, so the hotel excellent for families who likes to be in the city center for sightseeing and shopping. Also, the hotel rooms are clean and large enough compare to similar hotels rooms in London, as well as the rooms are quite.

Staff were very friendly. Water, drinks and light snack left in the room on arrival were a thoughtful gesture - thank you! Proximity to the bus stop and the city centre meant that the car could be left at the hotel to explore Oxford..
