I had a really lovely experience at The Green Man in Old Harlow. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained—exactly what you’d hope for in a relaxing stay. From Start to finish all the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. There was no snobbery shown. The bedrooms were spotless, the breakfast was so good, fresh hot, and very tasty. The ground are absolutely beautiful, and the gardeners were friendly. Absolutely loved the place. My brother in law passed away to pancreatic cancer in Sussex, and I had been in Brighton for 4 days. I came up to ware as one of my dearest friends Ann had passed away to cancer leaving her husband, son, and daughter behind. She got to see her children Marry but didn't get to meet her 2 granddaughter as both her kids were expecting their first child. It was heartbreaking, but Fanhams Hall gave me the space and kindness I needed to stay strong and grieve in my own time. Thank you all so much Kind regards Sarah Ellis

Awful stay.

Awful stay. Thin mattress, thin curtains so light streams in. Emergency light led really bright in bedroom. Patio door didn’t lock. Room overlooks noisy car park On the plus side there’s a couple of pubs about 20 min walk away.

Marina village suited my needs.

Marina village suited my needs. I was looking for a quiet relaxing stay and the hot tub added to the experience. The lodge was fully equipped with cooking utensils, fridge, cooker, washing machine. Parking space right in front of the lodge made unloading bags easy. The onsite Indian restaurant was a bonus and well-priced. Local shop was well stocked and friendly staff made my day. The boat house cafe provided me with a nice sausage toastie for breakfast. Good place for long walks and cycling tracks. I didn’t cycle, but they’ll be renting bikes out from August. Nice place to take the family. Very peaceful.

The information said there was a cafe/bar open until 9pm that served snacks and hot drinks. There was only an Indian Restaurant. No options for breakfast except to drive into the village. There didn’t look to be much parking in the village. The room was dusty, with cobwebs, the shower was mouldy in the cubicle & especially on the ceiling, the carpet was not clean.

Its a bit out of the way, alongside a barge marina. I thought it would be quiet. Alas, a group had booked and had been placed in neighboring rooms to mine. Even though they were not ridiculously noisy both at 2300 and 0300 (going to a nightclub?) the soundproofing in the hotel is inadequate. The Indian Restaurant adjacent served good food, but the service was awful. They were massively under-staffed for a Saturday evening and it spoiled it for me. I might give it another go but not on a Friday or Saurday.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Safe parking. a real bonus. Two restaurants close by. The Boathouse had evening meals but we only used the breakfast option and we enjoyed our full English. The Indian restaurant next door to hotel was superb. We ate there both nights. There is marina and a towpath but weather was to wet to enjoy it! Reasonably close to North London where we were visiting family. We Will use again if coming to North London as the parking locally is a nightmare and so nice to come back to somewhere serene!

The room I had booked had faeces on the bathroom floor and filthy towels around the toilet basin, despite a sticker on the room door proudly announcing that it had been 'cleaned and sanitized', This was a dreadful start to my visit. Fortunately, the receptionist was able to allocate me to a lodge instead, and my stay picked up from there.

We had everything we needed inside the chalet. It was relatively clean. The hot tub was a nice added bonus! It was very practical to be so close to the railway station, and to be able to get a train into London quite easily too! The Roydon Indian restaurant also onsite, had very good Indian food. It was a bit of a shame that it was only open in the evenings, but we certainly recommend it.

We love the lodges at Roydon bro g our second stay of the year but in a different lodge they all still have the same quality. Absolutely gorgeous lodge with a hot tub right outside the door. Very dog friendly and with all dogs kept on leads at all time I felt my dog was safe to have her walks without off lead dogs getting in her face. Relaxing, tranquil with gorgeous views.

Loved the room, it was large and clean, bar the odd cobweb. Bed was comfy for partner who likes soft beds but too soft for me. Staff were lovely and friendly. Indian restaurant onsite did nice food but a bit pricey, more expensive than London. Fab location if looking to purchase a boat or explore Roydon. All in all a nice little place to stay.
