We tremendously enjoyed staying at the Old Post Office, which is most likely the cleanest, the coziest and by far the best equipped holiday home we’ve ever stayed at. We loved the tranquility and the remoteness very much indeed and we greatly enjoyed the garden and the exceptional view from the wee entrance room (where we actually spent most of the time because of the view). There are so many elements of our stay that we loved about Ceol Na Mara: the warmth and friendliness of our hosts, Jane and Dave, the view from our room, the physical beauty of the location, the thoughtful and sensitive attention to detail, the Harris Tweed touches and decor of our generously sized room, the peace and quiet, the little touches of whisky, the biscuits and chocolates, having a fridge in our room with fresh milk, the wonderfully comfortable bed, the thoughtful inclusion of ear plugs, a picnic set, face cloths, the porch for changing from outdoor shoes, the delicious, generous breakfast, blockout blinds, the guest lounge upstairs and the wonderful touches of highly appropriate sheep decor throughout the guesthouse. Just love what Jane and Dave have created in providing a sanctuary for guests at Ceol Na Mara. They have considered every little detail in catering for guests needs. It was truly a privilege to stay here. We just wish we had stayed longer.

Everything was perfect. Iain & Elizabeth were incredibly lovely, treating us more as family members than guests. Every tiny detail was curated, from the lemon pie they gave us as a welcome gift, to the tour of the house given by Iain. They even made us a breakfast bag because we had the ferry at 6 in the morning. Perfect stay in a lovely island!

It was absolutely lovely! The location is beautiful, the view from the windows is breathtaking and I can't say enough good about the hosts. They were so accomodating, friendly and went out of their way to make our stay agreeable. We got great recommendations of what to visit, where to eat (on a Sunday when everything is closed). The room was very comfortable, clean and cosy. And the homemade breakfast in the morning was delicious! Thank you so much for everything! Merci!

A terrific location, very peaceful with its garden overlooking the beach and the sea. Very scenic surroundings. Secluded from the main road, down a track. Yet only a few minutes drive from the Ferry terminal at Tarbert and with a pleasant walk into the village from the cottage The cottage was cosy and very comfy for relaxing, with two large lounging areas, as well as a dining area, well stocked kitchen and large bedrooms and well stocked games cupboard

The house is wonderful as are the people who look after it - nothing is too much trouble if you have a query or need help with something The property is in a little place called Maraig rather than in Tarbert which is about 15 minuts drive away so trust the post code when it takes you off the Tarbert road!

Tarbert is quiet, but there are plenty of places to go to...

Tarbert is quiet, but there are plenty of places to go to from there. It's nice to watch the ferry come and go. Lots of nice wee shops to browse. If you want to visit the distillery, check the opening times. It closes at 12.30 on a Saturday, so we missed it, not having checked beforehand. Be prepared for almost nothing open on a Sunday.

The locals and shopkeepers we met in the village were very friendly and helpful. The local grocers are good for topping up provisions, if you are self catering and have done a larger shop in Portree before catching the Ferry. The deli, cafe and hotel restaurants are excellent and the North Harbour Bistro on Scalpay is worth a visit and only a short drive away. The Isle of Harris distillery is next to the Ferry Terminal and there is an excellent gift shop across the road from it for little memories and lots of Harris Tweed options Luskentyre beach is less than 20 minutes away Watch out f9r the sheep on the roads!

We should have booked round the Tarbert distillery as there were no spaces when we called in to see. What a lovely place, well worth a visit even if you can’t get a tour. We ate at the Hebrides Inn, owned by John’s daughter and son in law and the food and staff were excellent

We stayed outside Tarbert but made use of Tarbert for shopping, petrol and dinner. The town is cute (there aren't many towns to speak of on these islands anyway) and has all the basic necessities you'd need during a stay on Harris/Lewis. Obviously, for anything major, you'd have to go to Stornoway, but that doesn't usually apply to people on holidays.

Tarbert is a small island town, with small shops.

Tarbert is a small island town, with small shops. There is a reasonable sized car park in the centre. It has a butcher/grocer store, and a small post office, a friendly small charity shop, and a Bank of Scotland. For tourist gifts there is the Harris Tweed store near the distillery, as well as the lovely “essence of Harris” soap and candle shop in the town centre, near the Calmac office. There are two hotels: the modern Hotel Hebrides opposite the Calmac office building, and the more upmarket Harris Hotel just up on the road to North Harris: both are ideal bases from which to explore Harris and Lewis, with the mountains, beaches, and cycling routes. We loved Tarbert, very relaxed and friendly, with a lovely community feel.

What a wonderful little cottage just a couple of miles from Tarbert and Margaret the host who lives next door couldn't do enough. The view is absolutely amazing, I could have sat there all day really and not gone anywhere! The cottage is well equipped with everything you need and you can park your car right next to the cottage and there is also a secure gate to keep all the wandering sheep out! Wouldn't hesitate to book this little gem again for my next visit to Harris!

Everything was excellent from the details of the room decorations, to the common spaces (just adorable guests lounge with stunning views), to the food (amazing breakfast). Very convenient position just outside of Tarbert, perfect for ferries and only 15 minutes to Luskentire beach. Very polite, welcoming and kind Hosts.
