We had a fantastic long weekend in Tideswell.

We had a fantastic long weekend in Tideswell. The village has pubs, restaurants ,cafes and lots of places to walk to and from, a beautiful church and a superb second hand bookshop. Tideswell is great base for exploring Derbyshire, most places are just 15 mins away by car and there are regular buses. Easy to visit Bakewell, Chatsworth, Buxton, Monsal trail, Eyam etc. Tideswell is a great place to visit as a family, couple or on your own, very peaceful and very friendly.

Very fine old church is well worth a visit. Otherwise very small with a couple of shops, café's, pubs and restaurants. Great breakfast and Coffee in the Tideswell Lounge. Great meal in Sal's Italian. Great fish and chips from Elliott's.

Loved Sal's Italian and The Star Inn pub was really friendly and welcoming. The George (? the one nearest to Sunshine Cottage) was closed at 10pm on a Saturday night! It seemed very very quiet generally but luckily Sal's and the Star saved us! We lunched at The Anglers Rest: great food and helpful staff.

Tideswell is a beautiful, unspoilt and quiet village in the Peak District of Derbyshire. It lies approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Buxton on the B6049, making it a great place to base yourself, for exploring the local area. The village has several pubs, shops, restaurants and a chippy, in which to relax and have something to eat, drink and unwind. There is the famous church of St John the Baptist, known locally as the Cathedral of the Peak, due to its size. In the main part of the village, there is a dwelling, known as the Markeygate House, dating back to 1432. Wakes Week is celebrated around the time of the summer solstice, as well as well dressing. Check locally for exact dates & details.

The village is beautiful, with many very old and interesting properties to admire as you walk around its quaint streets. The local people are helpful and friendly, always happy to chat and tell you something about Tidza, as it is known. A good variety of things is available from the local co-op, which is open until late, so there is no need to go further afield for supplies. There is no shortage of pubs and places to eat out, not to mention the excellent chippy, which offers a great selection and friendly banter into the bargain!

Cosy and warm on arrival, lovely welcome pack with essentials and treats. All toiletries, bed linen, towels etc to hotel quality , host has thought of everything including fabric conditioner and wash tablets for dish and clothes washer. Lovely original quirky features in the cottage. Perfect central location for exploring the Dales and so nice to know you had a comfortable and warm cottage to get back to after a days hiking

Great location in Tideswell. Good atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. The room was a good size and functional with TV, clothes rail, storage etc. Cleverly built into the attic so beware of a low beam. The shower room was a good size too.. The other family room we had was nice and toasty and the shower was good.

Reserved spot for hotel room parking. The food in the hotel was unbelievable. The staff are a credit to the owners; although they were young, they went above and beyond. The rooms were spacious, well-decorated, and very clean. The location was great for different walks in the Peaks, and Chatsworth House was not far away.

Hotel had good facilities in regards to drinks etc. Room was large enough. Breakfast was good though a little on the steep side especially having to pay for tea seperately and not included. Locality was good.
