Everything about this hotel is spectacular. From its stunning location at the edge of Lake Windermere, to its gorgeously decorated rooms, terraces, bathrooms, hallways, etc., to its friendly professional staff, its excellent hot and/or cold buffet breakfast, there was nothing left to chance. Our Lakehouse room was a short walk away from the main house, with a massive terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens and with an uninterrupted view of Lake Windermere. So peaceful. So gorgeous. The staff were exceptionally friendly and caring. The hotel is beautifully designed in a charming rustic style and has a true homey feel. It’s a pleasure to sit in the lounge or on the terrace, and breakfast with the breathtaking view is a real treat. Our room was lovely and very comfortable, even if a bit small. The location is excellent – set in a quiet neighborhood with scenic views and surrounded by a beautiful garden, yet within walking distance of the town center and just a short walk from the bus stop for routes 555 and 599, which take you to the Lake District’s main attractions and the stunning villages in the area.

The property was beautiful in a reserved old building style. The breakfast room/dining room was gorgeous and the furnishings were stunning. Staff were lovely. It was just a few hundred metres to the Windermere strip shops, had private off road parking and the £3pp each way bus to Bowness where the lake cruises leave from was only a couple of hundred metres away. Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful with the luggage.

stayed here for three nights. The location is good, close to Windermere station. you can walk to this house, no need to take a bus. Many eateries and shop close to it. The room is quite big, very clean, and It has a TV, a fridge, sofa, table, coffee maker, a clothes iron. The owner provided two stuffed toys to accompany you, one is Peter rabbit, another is his friend Flosy. So, you will stay with them. The place is quiet, and very beautiful decorated. If you are fancy on Peter rabbit, Windermere and Hill Top is a must visit place. To go to Hill top, you must take a bus to Bowness, first ferry, then mountain goat bus to there. There is a bus stop close to Bonnie Brae House, you can take it to Bowness, so very convenient, highly recommended!

I visit Windermere on a regular basis to dance the Argentine Tango at the Ladyholme Centre not far from the town itself. While there i have stayed in a variety of accommodation and have always had a good experience. The distance between Windermere and Bowness is only a walk of around 20 minutes. Buses are frequent within the area. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in and around the town to choose from and it is a safe place for Solo travellers to explore.

Poor run down hotel .

Poor run down hotel . The bulk of the staff were foreign and deeply embarrassed at the state of the hotel. Cleanliness disgusting, food revolting, facilities closed . Restaurant had a mop bucket in the centre catching rainwater . The mattress in the Club room was without protection and heavily stained with body fluids . Dogs barking at night and sat in the bar and Restaurant area. The main entrance was blown open and leaves /debris blowing in due to the lock being removed leaving it wide open and vulnerable. Temporarily staff working there also owned a nearby Greek restaurant and constantly tried to divert customers there. Cleanliness throughout the hotel was poor . Breakfast simply inedible. This place needs a huge injection of capital to bring it up to date 9and a complete change of staff from the manager to the cleaner to make it a viable business.

Bowness on Windermere is much livelier and you can see the lake and go on lake ferries from there, whereas Windermere itself is much higher up and does not have direct lake access. A great place to eat and some wonderful cakes is Sweet dreams on Quarry Rigg.

The area was mostly fine.

The area was mostly fine. In some areas the town was looking tired. Absence of any visible street cleaning. We must have passed an area where someone had let their dog foul the pavement at least eight times as we walked up and down to our guest house and back down towards the lake I know it’s individual dog owners where the responsibility lies but even so it’s a big tourist area So one would expect a bit more pride in the area Unfortunately we won’t be rushing back to visit

Windermere is a vibrant town.

Windermere is a vibrant town. It has a great choice of restaurants, cafes and bars offering a great range of food genres. It has a lot of independent shops with wonderful window displays and friendly, helpful teams. It has a spectacular lake which is lovely to walk beside. It is also a gateway to other towns in the wider area of the Lake District.

The location itself is excellent, in the Lake District, close to Bowness on Windermere, and walks out the backdoor to Brant Fell and others. The Oaks itself is so relaxing, quality furnishings, fabulous kitchen with four ovens... and dining area, numerous lounge rooms so everyone can find their own space if they wish to, so no one on top of each other. The bedrooms with en suite showers and toilets were just perfect. I would not hesitate to book again and return. And then of course there was the view...

The building is beautiful and set in an amazing setting right on Bowness on Windermere! The interior is a classic design with some contemporary touches. The room was large as was the bed, lovely and comfy and clean- the water, sweets and tea/coffee/biscuits and shower gels were a lovely touch. The staff were friendly, smart and really helpful. I would definitely return for longer to really benefit from all that this hotel offers.

The hotel was a stunning building, very clean, and located just a 20 mins walk to lake windermere or a short drive in the car. We booked the retreat suite, with a stunning large sleigh bed and an amazing bathroom, with a double jacuzzi bath with TV, and a walk in shower. The breakfast was very nice and very filling, with the staff so friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure you have a great stay. Highly recommend.
