Wonderful hotel in Athens. I would definitely stay here again. We were given a complimentary room upgrade — the room was spacious and excellent, and the location is just a short walk from the Acropolis. Everything was perfect

Everything about the hotel was personal and comfortable while maintaining its luxury. The reception staff was beyond welcoming and hospitable with anything that we needed. The breakfast at the pub right next to the hotel was superb and had a wonderful variety of items readily available as well as a menu of items made to order. The location was within short walking distance to many great restaurants and sights. We opted for the room with a jacuzzi on the deck, and it was a wonderful activity for the kids after a long day. This hotel is truly a gem in such a beautiful city. Well worth a stay!

I am an architect, so yes, already the name The Modernist caught my eye, but this place truly is a delight to all the senses. The hotel is located in the heart of Kolonaki, with its tree lined streets and hustle and bustle of up market bistros and bars. The hotel itself is a genuine work of art and the attention to detail is unsurpassed. Rooms are sleek and minimalist, with carefully crafted dark interiors that transport you to a place of tranquillity, complemented with bespoke furniture and brass highlights, adding a touch of luxury, which continues in the gorgeous bathroom with stone counter tops and a spacious walk-in shower. One of the highlights of the hotel is the rooftop terrace, with stunning views of the Acropolis and the city skyline, the perfect place to relax with a drink or enjoy a meal. The home cooked food is inspired and made with love, breakfast is not to be missed and will lift both your legs and spirit from the get-go. But what really sets The Modernist Athens apart is its warm-hearted people. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, always happy to help with anything you may need and make sure that you have a wonderful stay. They’re the family you wished you always had. It’s my favourite place to stay when I’m visiting Athens. I’ve stayed here many times and I can’t wait to come back. The Modernist Athens is a truly special and unforgettable place.

FAQs about hotels in Athens

Dynamic City With 3400 Years of History

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.

A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.

The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.

Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

The city is much cleaner now than it used to be 5 years ago when I last went there. Lots of new developments in case you are looking to buy a property there which was my case. Lots of taxis at a reasonable price. Friendly helpful people and lots of nice places where you you eat nice food.

Didn’t expect it to rain so much!

Didn’t expect it to rain so much! But was so lucky that the next day it hadn’t rained and we were so relieved to have sunny weather. We walked to everywhere. We have seen what we have listed to see. Just disappointed that I missed Socrates’ prison. Monastiraki square has some Halal restaurants. We had dinner at Misafir. And on second day we had lunch at ‘Falafel Tou Psyrri’ which is also 2mins from the square. Few metres from old Monastiraki metro station which turned into restaurants.

We spent a lovely weekend, first time in Athens.

We spent a lovely weekend, first time in Athens. If you have only few days to get equated - there is a sightseeing bus to get general understanding of the city and decide what would be most interesting to visit. Of course Acropolis of Athens and Plaka are must! But city offers places of interest for any tourist. There are many great cafes and bars, we liked many in Plaka, outside it we had a great experience in MIRONI Restaurant - Greek Kitchen: food, service and price.

Athens exceeded every expectation.

Athens exceeded every expectation. It’s a city where ancient history and modern life blend beautifully, creating an atmosphere that feels both timeless and vibrant. Walking through the streets, you’re constantly surrounded by landmarks, culture, and warm hospitality. The Acropolis and its surrounding sites are awe-inspiring, but what truly makes Athens special is its everyday charm — the cafés, the food, the lively neighbourhoods, and the friendly people. Whether exploring Plaka’s narrow streets, enjoying a sunset view from Lycabettus Hill, or tasting authentic Greek cuisine, Athens offers experiences you’ll remember forever. A city rich in character, energy, and soul. Absolutely worth visiting — and revisiting!

Food was amazing recommend Mezza Athens near centre for friendly staff and great traditional greek food. Shame about Graffiti everywhere and some rundown areas but didn't feel unsafe. The Plaka city centre athens flat was perfectly located within a comfortable walking distance to and from the metro. The location was fabulous, close to the excellent restaurants, independent and touristy shops and the acropolis. We were also lucky enough to have partial view of it. The flat was well furnished, clean and our host was really attentive and responsive when we had issues or any questions before and during our stay. Overall, after spending a week around greece, athens and our stay at this apartment was the highlight of our trip.

Easily searchable on Google maps. Very clean, quite. It has everything whatever we needed. It's on 15 - 20 min walking distance from all the famous sites e.g. Acropolice, museum, Ancient Agoda etc and city centre. Even metro is also on 15 min walking distance. Within in 7-10 min of walk, you will get pub, restaurants, and cafés. This is one of my best stay. I will stay again if visiting Athens, Greece.
