Nisyros is a a great island to visit for a couple of days. Not very developed or touristy, and if you're staying there you can go explore the quiet beaches in the daytime before checking out the volcano crater and rimtop villages a little later in the afternoon/evening after the daytrippers from Kos have gone.

The castle is well worth a visit and the information boards were very useful. The monastery has a good history. The volcano is worth a visit but the coaches only give you limited time there. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, a craft beer bar which is worth a visit and a small bar called Nist which is well worth a visit.

It has a great deal of the character of old Greece, with many modern twists. There are some interesting shops, selling local crafts and other worthwhile souvenirs. Restaurants and tavernas serve all the usual fayre, along with excellent fresh, local seafood. One treat was watching the sunset from the various bars whilst enjoying a sundowner. It is a photographer's paradise, as is the whole island. It is quite small, with a tiny beach so a couple of days would probably be long enough for most people. We hired a car for a day and visited the volcano before the tourist boats arrived and transferred people to buses for their tour. I would certainly recommend a car rather than a coach trip. The roads are quiet and well made.

Where to begin from the time you come off the ferry time stops! This is the place to relax and enjoy life! There are no clocks on Nisyros ☺️☺️. You are here to slow down and enjoy the small island vibes and eat well and wind down!

If you are after peace and quiet. This is the place for you. Hire a scooter and go and see the volcano before the day trippers. Once the day trippers go the place is so quiet. Little villages to visit and a beach called Palos ( I think that's how you spell it) a restaurant named Aphrodite along the front. Food was delicious. Try the pork shank. Definitely recommend the whole place. Stayed at 3 brothers hotel. Perfect.

The town itself is lovely, with its traditional architecture mixing dark volcanic stones with white painting, its twisted alleys, churches, sea promenade... A visit to nearby Paleokastro is a must (either walking up the old stone foot-path or up the road if you decide to rent a vehicle), and it can be topped with a visit to the small but interesting archaeological museum down in Mandrakion.
