FAQs about hotels in Pula

Prized by Empires

Pula has been drawing visitors to its sunny shores since Roman times. Many an empire fought over its strategic Istrian Peninsula location, but thankfully they left its monuments largely intact. None is more impressive than huge Pula Arena, a Roman amphitheatre just back from the port.

The Temple of Rome and Augustus is a wall from another temple has been incorporated into the 10th-century Communal Palace on the cobbled square which occupies the site of the former Roman forum. The Arch of Sergii was a triumphal memorial and the Twin Gates and nearby Gate of Hercules provided access through the Roman walls.

Today’s walls are medieval and skirt a hill topped with a Venetian castle housing the Istrian History Museum. Halfway up are the Roman theatre remains, accessible via Pula Archaeological Museum.

The 6th-century Basilica of St Mary Formosa has mosaics similar to those in Ravenna across the Adriatic and Pula Cathedral was originally from the same century, but got rebuilt over 800 years later.

For many though, Pula’s wonderful beaches and turquoise seas are the biggest attractions. Its undulating coastline is peppered with luxury hotels, resorts and cheap apartments on Booking.com, all easily accessible from Pula Airport. Some look towards the Brijuni National Park islands whose waters offer some great diving spots.

Pula is a beautiful city with a strong Roman heritage.

Pula is a beautiful city with a strong Roman heritage. The Pula Arena is similar to Rome's Colosseum, which was impressive to see. Also, above the Arena there was a peaceful, mesmerizing Church. The rest of the city is also beautiful, with Roman temples and narrow streets.

The old town is interesting with the Arena, Castle and the colourful cranes. There are interesting tunnels under the castle on two levels which date from the 1st and 2nd World Wars. There are trains and buses to Roving, Pazin, Labin and the Brijuni National Park. Some good restaurants such as The Jupiter which does Pizza as well as seafood, pasta and grills.

Beautiful city packed with history, culture, fantastic food and great amenities, all centrally located. Everywhere easily walkable, but good local bus services run too. And Pula central bus station runs coach services intercity across the region that are easy to book and affordable, making Pula an excellent city to visit, and base for visiting Croatia.

Pula has some interesting Roman history but you can do this in a day. There are some great restaurants and plenty of choice in the centre, near the arena. Pula is overall a commercial city so if you want beaches you need to stay on the outskirts.

Very beautiful place, both the city center and the beaches...

Very beautiful place, both the city center and the beaches were great. One of the most beautiful places I've seen with those amazing caves by the sea. Easy public transport, a lot of activities to do (ship cruise, kayaking, wine tasting, sightseeing etc.). The city center offers many many cafes and restaurants in different price ranges (delicious pizza for 9 euro) and many very interesting places to see and visit (e.g. the underground tunnels and the Arena). I highly recommend, we were there for 4 days and I regret I didn't take more holidays to stay there longer. There's a lot too see also on the islands nearby and museums, we didn't have time for that unfortunately.

The location is excellent. Own beach and very close to one of Croatia's top rated beaches. The private beach has a pontoon that facilitates entering the sea. Mobile homes are very stylish and comfortable. Air conditioning. Terrace suitable for both shade and sun. English speaking staff, very kind but not friendly. Very good breakfast. The bistro also serves dinner with excellent dishes. The parking lots and the swimming pools, an extraordinary plus. Definitely a place to appreciate.

Thanks for the rest. At first, the location of the apartment seemed a bit quiet, scary, but it exudes its Croatian charm. 2 km from the old town center, which can be walked on foot. Free parking is available. The apartment is beautiful, clean, tasteful. Every detail has been thought of. There is even a washing machine. We really appreciated the snacks left. Breakfast is quite enough. Responsive, kind, but unobtrusive hosts. Overall, we really liked it

The owners waited for us, there was a huge traffic jam from Austria to Croatia, so we were almost 3 hours delayed. They were very patient with us. There is a small supermarket 5 minutes walk. The beach is around 7 minutes away by car, which is very convenient. We could even have a BBQ there! I would recommend this place.

All in all, good place. Refurbished and new, nice position. Swimming pull was extremely crowded, one person in a shop needs to learn what customer service means - preaty rude and used a swear words as he thought that we didn't understand Croatian language, but it didn't spoil our holiday.
