FAQs about hotels in Galway

Cracking City of Craic

Welcoming Galway is a small city with fantastic nightlife and an infectious atmosphere. Outside of the Galway Arts Festival, there’s still plenty of live music in the Irish pubs to get the party started.

The Galway Races at Ballybrit Race Course west of Galway Airport attract a good crowd, as does Eyre Square, a green space with flags of previous ruling families who gave it its nickname - City of Tribes. To the south are cobbled streets housing brightly colored shops and restaurants.

Sights in Galway include its cathedral and city museum which has an interesting insight into the history of the city and Ireland. Lynch’s Castle is the last remaining 17th-century merchant house, and the Spanish Arch is a small section of city walls by the Corrib River, linking Galway Bay to huge Loch Corrib. Where river and ocean meet is Claddagh Park, a great spot for a picnic with a view.

Further around the coast is Salthill Promenade, home to Atlantaquaria, Ireland’s national aquarium, focussing on sealife off Irish shores. It’s a Christmas Day tradition to jump from Blackrock Diving Tower nearby into the icy Atlantic Ocean, though you may well spot some wag giving it a go.

Booking.com has an excellent range of Galway hotels, apartments and B&Bs to complete your stay.

What Guests Said About Galway:

We stayed in Galway for 2 nights at the end of a 9 day road...

We stayed in Galway for 2 nights at the end of a 9 day road trip throughout the northern half of Ireland. We arrived in time for the Macnas Halloween Parade, so the city was insanely busy. There was so much to do and see in Galway, and we really only got a day & a half in the city. There were so many great restaurants, fun pubs, historical locations and cute shops, that we barely scratched the surface. I would have liked to stay an extra 2 or 3 days so that we could have explored further outside of the Spanish Quarter area. The weather was very drizzly & wet, so my group didn't want to venture for longer walks in the rain. I would have loved to get to the coastal area and I heard there was a lovely beach (or 2) nearby. Even the day after the parade, the city was packed with travelers and people on holiday, so space was limited in some of the pubs and restaurants, so a few extra days would have given us time to explore at more of a leisurely pace, plus take in more of the history of the area. I would go back in a heartbeat. While we were in a mecca of Irish Pubs and lots of Irish food, we ended up eating at 2 Italian restaurants - I guess we were craving pizza! We loved both Venice and Woozza. One person in our party went crazy for the wood-fired pizza at Woozza! She really wanted to eat at "Dough Bros" but both times we went there the line was out the door. They had a second location in the Gin Alley, but it was closed when we went there. We also had an amazing breakfast at Pascal - huge hearty pancakes and lovely coffees! The pubs at night were always lively and we hung out for a while at the Skeff - it was all spooky for Halloween, and it had rooms that went on forever, with multiple bars on multiple levels with a maze of staircases and live music.

Galway was small and quaint and easy to navigate.

Galway was small and quaint and easy to navigate. The city Hostel was perfect. Very friendly staff and great amenities and advice. I only had a day and a night there but would have liked to spend at least 2 more days exploring. A fun, relaxed and low key pub experience at night with good music available many places.

It was the best city to base yourself to explore East...

It was the best city to base yourself to explore East Ireland including Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Stone, Doolan Cave, Hazel Mountain Chocolate, Moore Hall (which is a must do). Just amazing scenic drives. You can also jump on to Bus Tours in the city if you don't have a car. The City is amazing get some good shoes on for an amazing and safe walk while you explore Churches, Galleries, Latin Quarter, Spanish Quarter and the best ever pub atmosphere (The Kings Head). Good shopping if that is your thing. Also visit markets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with handmade arts and crafts and probs the best oysters ever.

Galway is a great starting point for Ring of Kerry tour.

Galway is a great starting point for Ring of Kerry tour. In addition Galway is a charming town with lots of character. We ate at Mcginns Hop House and it was so good we ate there both nights we were in town. Be sure to drop into the Galway Cathedral as it is truly speculative.

A beautiful clean, safe city.

A beautiful clean, safe city. So much history in and around the city. The people are lovely and enjoy a chat. An easy city to walk around-no car needed. A trip to the Cliffs of Moher and Arran Islands is a 'must do'.

Beautiful hotel with really big rooms. We booked last minute to see a concert at the airport as it is down the road so the location was the best thing for us! Turns out the band we went to see were also staying at the hotel! Also the buss stop outside the hotel has a bus that takes you to the city centre for 1.90. The staff were really nice and helpful for information too.

I stayed there for four nights for a business trip. The location is great, in walking distance to the coach station and the city center, staff very friendly. The room is exactly the style you would expect when travelling to Ireland: small but cosy and clean. I also cannot confirm the noise…I stayed at the 2nd floor and slept very well. Would stay there again.

Everything was nice. It was easy to be able to park the case in the underground hotel car park. The 2 bedrooms were great and it is close to the city center. At the apartment we had everything we needed. We would happily stay here again.
