FAQs about hotels in Limerick

There Once Was a Gem on the Shannon…

Limerick revels in one of Ireland’s most iconic views – the River Shannon curving past King John’s Castle, a 12th-century fortress that could have come straight from a Grimm fairytale. Frank McCourt wrote ‘Angela’s Ashes’ about his childhood here, and his former school is a museum about him, set amid elegant Georgian architecture in the Newtown Pery district. Equally attractive is the custom house, now housing the Hunt Museum's eclectic collection of art and artefacts.

The 12th-century St Mary’s Anglican Cathedral is the city’s oldest building used daily, while St John’s Catholic Cathedral has Ireland’s tallest spire. The coexistence of the two is symbolic of the 17th-century accord between Jacobites and Williamites, supposedly signed on the Treaty Stone.

The Milk Market is a bustling hub of local produce sellers, and the shops of pedestrian Cruises Street are surrounded by restaurants and bars offering great nightlife, including some where you can jig to traditional Irish folk tunes.

The city is also sports mad. Munster Rugby play in Thomond Park, while the Gaelic Grounds ring with the sounds of hurling and Gaelic football supporters. Golf courses, a racecourse and greyhound stadium complete the picture.

Booking.com’s Limerick accommodation includes luxury hotels with spas and swimming pools, and cheap apartments near Shannon Airport.

We were just passing through Limerick, but I noted a few key points: in the evening it is difficult to have dinner after 9 PM, so you have to settle for fast food. Also, it seemed to me that Limerick is less beautiful than other Irish cities, even though it is located on the River Shannon.

Able to easily get around the city walking to sites e.g. Hunt Museum. King John’s Castle. Limerick was. Good base for excursions further west and providing excellent accommodation which may not have been available elsewhere.

We really enjoyed Limerick. The people were lovely.

We really enjoyed Limerick. The people were lovely. The food was great. The city centre is compact and easy to get around. The Treaty City Brewery was a high spot as were the Museum of Limerick (really helpful staff) and the People's museum (shared their enthusiasms with us). We enjoyed the street art very much.

We stayed at Greenhills Hotel on the Ennis Road—great location with a bus stop just down the road that takes you straight into the city centre. Before dinner, we stopped by The White House for a few drinks. The Guinness was excellent, but I’d give the white wine a miss—not the best selection. The pub has a lovely traditional Irish vibe with some modern touches, making it a really pleasant spot. Dinner was at Freddy’s Restaurant, where the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. We wrapped up the evening at The Copper Room, a stylish underground wine bar with an impressive selection of wines, ports, and cheese boards. I’ll definitely be heading back there next time I’m in Limerick! Best part? All of these spots were just a stone’s throw from each other, making it super easy to enjoy a full evening out without needing to travel far.

Limerick was somewhere I have wanted to visit, for no real reason. I was extremely disappointed and would not recommend it or return myself. Everyone was really nice ad the town is no reflection on them. From Google a highlight was a view of the town from a bridge!! If that is the highlight it is really struggling. The best thing about that bridge was it was the exit road out of town. Sorry Limerick. Maybe I missed something so this could be an unfair review.

Limerick is a lovely city with the river Shannon running through it. It is lovely to stroll by the river or sit on one of the many benches and have a coffee. There's lots of shops, bars, restaurants, museums and art galleries to visit and of course King John's Castle For fans of Frank McCourt's wonderful Angela's Ashes, it's lovely to visit and see where the young Frank grew up

The hotel is conveniently located, as it is close to the city centre, and comfortable. We stayed for one night as we were on our way to another city so it was great that they had an agreement with the Q-Park nearby and we could park there for a discounted fee.

Fabulous hotel! The staff were so lovely. The breakfast was one of the best we've ever had in Ireland. The location was great, in the heart of Georgian Limerick. Couldn't fault this hotel, top notch! Would love to go back.
