The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to assist us keep away from other guests as we had just tested positive with covid and did not want to pass it to others (as some other miserable people had obviously done to us). The harbour bar is such a wonderful, down to earth cosy pub… full of people and full of atmosphere… Great food and an amazing beach view outside.. The pizza restaurant is also fantastic with truly delicious pizzas… Downings was full of life … a very happy place!

Downings had a great ice cream shop.

Downings had a great ice cream shop. We loved shopping at McNutt's where we bought gorgeous wool items and linen napkins. The beach is accessible right in the middle of the village. You can drive onto the beach and park while you swim. The water was so clean and 16 degrees, which was warmer than the sea water off Dublin. The Galley is a great place for lunch. There are lovely little shops to check out.

It’s a great location.

It’s a great location. Eating out there are some lovely places nearby to eat. Pitch and put or football golf are good fun. Can get crowded in the summer holidays. But well worth a visit. The gallery is great for lunch, as is Downings hotel.

there are beautiful beach walks in the area but it takes some driving to get to them. It is a major golfing destination so very good for that. We are not golfers. We had a good time there with good beach walks. It is a remote area. We would have no reason to return.

The perfect base for exploring North Donegal, close enough...

The perfect base for exploring North Donegal, close enough to Glenveagh National Park, Fanad lighthouse (via Harry Blaney Bridge) and Inishowen Peninsula (via ferry from Rathmullan) Ards Forest Park (and Friary) only 20 mins away is well worth a visit, the coastal walk from Friary leads to the most spectacular secluded beaches There are two wonderful beaches, Tra Beag in the town and Tra Mor just outside. Plenty of places to eat with two hotels in the village, plus Fisks for Sea food, The Galley for Gourmet Burgers, Goose and Gander for Pizza, as well as the Singing Pub just outside the village (Steak on the Stone)

From even before we arrived, Mairead had sent us a video explaining how to get to the location of Coastal Heaven. We were met by a lovely bubbly lady who couldn't have done much more for us during our first stay in Downings. She gladly told us what to see and do around the place and was more than willing to answer any questions and made sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. This place has an outdoor shower, which is definitely an experience on its own and what a class one it was. Many Thanks Mairead and we hope to be back soon.

OMG where do you start ? This place is “exceptional” in every way, beautifully finished large apartment with stunning views and hosts that were so lovely and helpful. There’s a great pub only 10 minutes walk away (The Singing Pub) and the Downings area is such a fabulous place to visit. Thank you so much 👍❤️🙏

Great location overall. A short drive or walk to the beach and Downings town. Lovely restaurant, cafes and pubs and friendly locals! Seakus was very helpful in advising what to do for a short stay and we had a great couple of days as a family of x2 adults x2 children and pet dog.
