We all aim for, at some point in our busy lives, that truly magical holiday location in the mountains, where we are truly able to recharge ourselves. As I write this, I’m sitting on the balcony of chalet 1175, in the mountain hamlet of Grand Haury, deep within the Aosta valley, nestled between the sublime mass of Mont Blanc and the town of Aosta itself, some 17km away. The chalet, with its stone built walls, strong oak beams and carved woodwork, harks back to history and fits perfectly into this tiny village, evoking a time long ago, without phones, tv and the internet, and when the village was a quiet haven for its inhabitants. The vista from the typical and quite beautiful balcony, looks over the tree lined slopes and the upwards to the white, snow-capped mountains that stand sentinel over the villages, and immediately hits you in its majesty. Yes, the views from our chalet are all that is needed for perfect relaxation and reflection. This beautiful chalet, situated in such a quintessential mountain hamlet, is an amazing and magical place - an experience of the real Italy and of this historic Alpine region. The chalet immediately captures you and draws you in to it. It defines what a holiday chalet should be - because you immediately feel at home within its stone walls, and beneath the typical alpine timbers. The finishing of the chalet is of the highest quality, with the most comfortable beds imaginable, and bathrooms for each bedroom, that would fit into any 4 star hotel. On arrival, there was milk, butter, a selection of finest olive oils, boundless fruit, biscuits, bread etc, and the reassurance that everywhere you looked in the cabin, or outside on the balcony or the garden, everything was finished off to the highest possible standard, whilst retaining the aesthetic charm of a genuine Italian mountain chalet - just a quite superb one, that stands out in every way.

I’d like to give special mention to the chef, who masterfully creates meals that are at once rooted in tradition and wonderfully inventive. Chapeau! A heartfelt thank-you to all the staff for their professionalism, high-quality service, and meticulous attention to detail. They’re always on hand to make your stay as special as possible. The entire property is spotless and peaceful. From here you can easily reach nearby mountain towns for skiing, hiking, and mountain biking—or just set off on the local roads straight from the resort to explore the Alps by bike. Finally, the resort’s interior design is classic and tasteful, adorned with numerous frescoes—a refreshing contrast to the sterile “white-wall” style that often feels lifeless.

Lovely owner and one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in. Completely individual with real character and charm. The beds were incredibly comfortable with excellent high quality bedding . Breakfast was a joy! Local products and attention to detail everywhere. Beautiful part of Italy too.

We stayed in this hotel twice during our holiday, first two nights and last three, and liked it. The young staff are very friendly and willing to help, at checkout after first stay we asked to have same room for the second stay and they arranged things to accommodate our request. The hotel gives the impression that it could be much more. There is a lot of space, large and clean rooms with simple wooden furniture, two communal areas plus the breakfast room (no restaurant at the moment), a terrace with nice views, and close to the Dora Baltea river so pleasant sound of water flowing. The town of Villeneuve is quiet and ideally located at only ~15 mins drive from Aosta and ~30 mins from Courmayeur / Monte Bianco. We would be happy to stay there again.
