The two halves of Imperia - Oneglia and Porto Maurizio - are different and both are worth exploring on foot. Lots of historic streets and coastal and mountain views. Porto Maurizio has a self guiding tour with information boards to follow. Imperia isn’t too big or busy which was nice for us. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Villa Grock clown museum was bizarrely fascinating and well worth the walk up the steep hill. It has a cafe to reward your effort! lovely easy going place to visit, not overly populated with tourists. If you are relying on public transport you might be dissappointed with the availability of buses or taxis when you want them. Imperia is a nice city with good facilities, beaches and restaurants. There aren’t many tourists and it is not so crowded. The beaches are clean and the water is very nice, but you have to reserve every day your umbrella for the next day because otherwise you won’t find any free place on the beach. Nicely furbished with all essential amenities (fridge, kitchenette, washing machine, coffee machine, large dining table, etc). Beautiful view to the sea from the balcony.
