FAQs about hotels in Palermo

A Symbol of Sicily

Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.

Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theater, and across the street is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina, whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.

Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining the 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.

Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, an intersection with a fountain in each corner.

Other attractions include the round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodations.

We were thinking of skipping Palermo based on reviews.

We were thinking of skipping Palermo based on reviews. Glad we did not. Street food scene was amazing. Landmarks (botanical gardens, catacombs and Steri etc were outstanding.) Architecture was gorgeous. Port at sunset was spectacular. Ballaro market food was great. We walked everywhere. Free bus was also used to get to cathedral and market. This city is a must see!!

A lovely vibrant city. Very easy to get around.

A lovely vibrant city. Very easy to get around. Some beautiful old buildings. So many lovely restaurants and cafes. We enjoyed Osterria Nonna Dora. It’s clearly popular with locals. It’s advisable to book. Quattro Canti is stunning. Town planning from the 1600s. Buses and trains are easy to use. We took the train to Cefalù, which has a beautiful beach. Cefalu is a gorgeous medieval town well worth visiting, quaint streets with traditional Italian places to eat. Mondello Beach is also a great beach within easy reach of Palermo. We went by bus. We travelled 3 hours to Mount Etna- a must do trip if you travel to Sicily.

I was surprised how dirty the city was and how much traffic there was. It is not easy to get around and there was more begging from I suspect were gypsies. We go to Morello spending 50E only to find it is closed. Neither the hotel nor the driver said anything.

Palermo has its charm.

Palermo has its charm. I was intending on taking a day trip the second day I was there but ended up staying in the city to explore more of what it had to offer. The monuments and buildings are amazing.

Loved the raw, boisterous feel of Palermo exploring the streets, alley ways and sights by foot. Heaps of restaurants, cafes and bars. We found restaurants and cafes away from the main tourist streets much more affordable and less crowded. Palermo was also a great base to explore other locations including Cefalu (1 hour by train) and Mondello beach (30 min by local bus). Our visit to Mondello during a weekday was a perfect, relaxing getaway from the hustle of Palermo with very few tourists and locals.

Palermo has it all. A bustling city.

Palermo has it all. A bustling city. Glorious sunshine, friendly Sicilians, delicious food and wine. Frida Pizza is a must. The city is stepped in history with stunning churches and architecture. The royal palace is a must with its glittering mosiacs. If you're into the macabre, the Capuchin Catacombs are unforgettable. Rows of preserved bodies, dressed and posed, offer a haunting glimpse into Sicilian attitudes toward death. Not for the faint-hearted, but absolutely riveting . Crossing the road in Palermo is a sport. Locals stride out with confidence and a raised hand. Follow suit or risk waiting forever. It's scary to say the least. Start with a walking tour on day one. It’ll anchor you in the city’s rhythm and reveal stories you’d never find alone. Palermo are very proud of their football team so catch a game if you are a footie fan.

This apartment is very large and comfortable. It's located in the main area of Palermo on a busy street, which is a lot of fun to explore and convenient for visiting surrounding towns/beaches. The apartment was very clean, and the host was EXCEPTIONAL in his helpfulness. We had never been to Sicily, and he happily answered all of our questions and did his best to assist whenever possible. I would highly recommend this apartment!

Despite all the warnings that tourists should not go to Sicily in August, due to the crowded cities and beaches, we had a wonderful time in Palermo with Francesco. His apartment is clean, close to the center, fully equipped and most importantly at a very good price. Thanks Francesco and we will definitely be back. Jan and Monika.

The hosts were very welcoming, they allowed us to check in a little early because the room was ready and they recommended the best places to see in Palermo and in the rest of Sicily plus explained us some fun facts and history of Sicily.

Really well appointed rooms and in a superb location near some of the best bars and restaurants in Palermo. Lovely attention to detail with lighting and the bed was the most comfortable of our trip. Feels more like a boutique hotel room.
