Fantastic Archaeological museum with fabulous ceramics, some of the best from earliest civilisations, well displayed with good lighting and English translations for general info and for each item. Worth going to Taranto just for that. Castle and very small island old city with very narrow laneways and good restaurants and the cathedral which is beautiful. Local buses work well and many from train station which is good as taxis not there at all.

A delightful small city with an undeveloped historic centre on an island. Good train connections to Bari and Lecce, less so to Naples. Convenient for excursions to Matera, Alberobello (trulli houses) and the southern Puglian countryside. Taranto cathedral full of pietra dura and, in the crypt, medieval frescos. Interesting Archaeological Museum with Greek and Roman finds, especially Greek black and orange vases and Roman mosaics.

The new section along the canal with bridge opposite the castle was postcard perfect .Something like this you will not find in many cities around the world.The old Città Vecchia was absolutely beautiful,the food was too die for.We were blown away by Taranto old culture v the new century. I commend the commune with the ongoing restoration of old culture buildings.They are improving a city that has everything. Food sculpture people.10/10.

I wouldn't rush back to Taranto.

I wouldn't rush back to Taranto. The modern town is very built up and feels a bit poor/run-down -- imagine a slightly more upmarket Naples. The old town is very dilapidated once you head away from the castle. Parts are totally derelict with more stray cats that human inhabitants. We chose Taranto as a base to explore Alberobello, Locorotondo and Matera, but would have been better staying somewhere more central.

The old town was really nice, great shops, we wanted to go...

The old town was really nice, great shops, we wanted to go to De castello(castle) but weren't able as the only had Italian guide and wasn't allowed to walk around ourselves, even though the tourist information Centre said the times on a sheet in English. Disappointed

Great location. Parking outside on street. At entrance to old town it was perfect. We were greeted with iced tea and an offer of a glass of wine while we checked in which was welcoming. Breakfast was very good with a range of cereals ,scrambled egg,fruit,pastries coffee, tea juice ands cold meats. All the staff were very helpful and always available. We loved Taranto and appreciated the desire to try and build up the tourist business .Very few tourists which was great for us. We were there mid October.

The room I stayed in was spacious and incredibly comfortable, offering excellent value for money. The breakfast provided was decent, providing a good start to the day. A special mention goes to the gentleman at the reception, who was exceptionally polite and helpful. Despite booking the room at the last minute, he graciously offered us an upgrade, which was a delightful surprise. Overall, this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Taranto.

Very charming property in the green peaceful district of Taranto. Lovely walking distance to the Old Town and Central Beach. While taking a pleasant promenade You will fall in love in a variety of local cafes and restaurants, clothing and shoe stores, accessories, bakers, full of locals. Modern, clean and beautiful location looking out to the Gulf of Taranto. Spectacular sunsets if you get a sea view. Our room was a king suite and well appointed. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. Great base if you want to tour the northern part of Puglia.
