Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.

Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible option

Fun beach town with lots of onsen and a million different sweets and snacks to sample! The beach was soft sand and the water was suitable for young kids. The shopping streets around the train station and Atami Ginza have tons of shops and cafes selling all sorts of sweets and local seafood specialties. Atami Castle is not a historic castle, but had great views and interactive exhibits ideal for kids, including a free arcade/game center. The ropeway up the mountain was fun too. We enjoyed the Sanremo Harbor cruise, especially the glass bottom boat. (Just note that you really can only see fish while the boat is docked.) Parking can be pretty difficult around the station, but was quite easy and convenient near the beach.

    Atami was lovely!

Atami was lovely! The train station is larger than expected with many buses going in all directions. There are lockers to store bags and a couple food options close. I took buses everywhere. The Pasmo card works in Atami. There is shopping and food throughout downtown. There are several hot springs to see in town. The beach was peaceful in February. I watched the sunrise over the water. By accident I found the bus to the Mt Fuji overlook. 2 days was not quite enough to see everything. My hotel KKR Atami had an Onsen with a sauna with a cold pool, bubbling pool, inside and outside still pool. I would visit again!

Atami is a nice little city with great seafood, but the prices are almost twice as high as Tokyo prices. After a few days there isn’t much to do but it is a great little city, just be conscious of what your paying for.

Booked a one night stay as a stop gap and loved it. Thankfully arrived early enough to dump our bags and head to the beach for the afternoon, not too crowded on a Saturday (May) and had a lovely swim, fish but not great visibility and some rubbish but had worse. Had a great seafood dinner, live abalone and buzzing street life. Stayed at Minori villa which was lovely, amazing view but bit of a climb. The shrine with the big tree was the best temple experience both 9pm in deadly silence and with the crowds the next day.

It's a beautiful town/city, not very many foreign tourists (that I saw). It's a great place to wind down and relax on a beach on one side and nature on the other. I don't like hot springs but I heard that they are also very nice there.

Located 5 min walk from Atami station in a quiet location. Older style traditional Japanese guesthouse. Tatami rooms with TV and aircon. Good value for money in this region. Host very helpful in showing guests around local attractions and providing snacks free of charge. Bathroom a bit dated but clean and functional. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Comfortable..

Beautiful hotel close to the Atami train station, we had a big japanese style room, there are toilets and water dispenser in every floor as well as a lounge with a couch, TV and a table tennis table to enjoy some relaxing time. The onsen was awesome! Wifi worked well.

The host was super nice and attentive to our queries despite not speaking English. Ryokan style Tatami mat floors. Randomly got given sweet iced treats during the day (which is super appreciated given how brutal Japanese summers can get).

Waem hospitality, fabulous service, spacious tatami suite with wonderful view over Atami and the bay, private hot spring bath, and delicious Japanese cuisine.

Super interesting to see and feel an all inclusive vacation package in Japanese style. Not a lot of foreigners, massive and impressive dinner/breakfast hall.
