Great place to stay if you’re hiking or traveling around the area. The host was super friendly, the and the room and sheets were clean. We also dug our own onsen in the river just outside - but there’s also a public outdoor onsen by the river as well as an indoor one in the minshuku. I also learned that “Minshuku” refers to a type of traditional, family-run guesthouse or lodging. Staying at a minshuku typically involves a more personal and homely experience, with the hosts often preparing homemade meals (usually Japanese-style), and the atmosphere is usually casual and friendly - I think it was all those things.

Staying in this property while hiking Kumano Kodo has been the highlight of our trip so far. Strongly recommended to people with an interest in traditional Japan! Host was friendly, we went to his yakitori restaurant for dinner and it was lovely as well.

The place is very nice, and the hotel offers a ride to the bus stop. In this area of Japan and around Hongu, bus is the main way for you to reach different trails. Food is fantastic. Stuff are very helpful and communicate well.

It was a great experience, a cozy, beautiful, and traditional place. The best part was Mindi's attentiveness at all times. The villa has an amazing view across the rice paddies to the Tori gate and then down to the river. The town has all you need to either self cater or eat out and the villa had everything we needed to drink our wine on the verandah and cook our Wagu steaks. Lots of condiments provided for us to do this. We enjoyed being able to have a meal at home and the area is worth staying an extra day or so. We only stayed one night and wished we could have stayed longer.

Great hospitality and price! Near for Hongu shrine and bus service. They have "Kumano spirit" to offer a safe welcoming place for Kumano visitors. I really appreciate the staff taking time to share talking with me. This is a guesthouse so you need to prepare and bring your own night ware and food. Some snack food for purchase, but there are not much restaurants open at night, or store. You choose guesthouses with the limited condition.
