Ekoin Temple is a stunning piece of architecture and the rooms are absolutely wonderful. Despite the winter cold, we were able to keep the room warm with the provided heater. I loved the bathroom, very clean and comfortable and beautiful design. The futons were comfortable, service kind and attentive and the food was delicious. One night was way too short!

Beautiful temple. The experience was amazing. The location is very good, close to the cemetery and not far from the other temples. The dinner and breakfast were very good. It was very nice to see the ceremonies in the morning. Nice onsen to relax.

Very cool experience, we had the best room so all cool (considering you are in a monastery). The morning prayer is super interesting as well as the position is very good. Staff is very nice and both dinner and breakfast were great.

This was probably the best guesthouse I’ve stayed at! Ryochi is an amazing host, and the service is excellent. You also get the chance to see the morning prayers, even though you’re not staying in a temple. The breakfast is very tasty, and the location is great—it’s a bit far from the town center, but right next to the cemetery, making it a perfect spot to catch the sunrise.

The place is really central and near major sites. The staff is welcoming and you can store your luggage. The room is as described on booking. The place is absolutely exquisite. The temple is relatively small, but very cosy. They have a beautiful rock garden and a pond with koi fish. The monks and the staff are very friendly. You can attend a 40 min meditation at 5pm and a service at 6am. The temple is located somewhat outside of the city centre (10 min walk) which means that there are no day tourists (only those who stay overnight - still many). I stayed for 3 nights, during the day the temple was very peaceful. I was staying in an expensive room with a private bath+shower and a great view onto a small rock garden, which was very peaceful. Most rooms don’t have own facilities, though, and you’ll have to observe bathing hours (6-9pm) to use the communal baths (separate for men and women). The food was excellent.

This is a world heritage site not to be missed.

This is a world heritage site not to be missed. The kindness and quiet beauty and the FOOD were heavenly. A friend suggested we go and stay a night in a temple for the full experience, (although a day trip is fine,) and we are so glad that we did. The Buddhist Okunoin cemetery is the largest in Japan and is lit by lanterns at night for a beautiful otherworldly (but actually this world! ;) unforgettable evening walk. Beautiful temples and sacred sites to visit, and many shops and little cafes to enjoy. We stayed in the Sanboin temple and were so delighted by our experience.

For those seeking a unique and spiritual New Year's Eve, I wholeheartedly recommend Koyasan. Just be sure to book your accommodation well in advance. I love here in Suzumeno🫶🥰😘

The entire stay and experience was amazing. The staff were very professional and attentive, again this is not suppose to be a typical hotel or Ryokan but honestly their sympathy puts many other such places to shame. The offuru bath was really warm and relaxing. The garden was pretty and the morning ceremony was an unforgettable cultural experience.
