We stayed at Insomnia Kyoto Oike for six nights, and it was the most pampering, comfortable, cozy, and friendly-designed hotel I’ve stayed at in Japan – and possibly anywhere. The hotel is perfectly located, just a short walk from the train station and about a 20-minute walk to Nishiki Market. The hotel offers everything you could need to make your stay pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are clean, spacious, and beautifully designed, with a fantastic bathroom and all the amenities you could ask for. The lobby features a cozy social lounge with light refreshments available 24/7, including a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, and even a beer/wine machine for only 500 yen per glass. Additional thoughtful features include a washing machine and dryer, a coin exchange machine, bicycles for guest use, refillable water bottles, and more. Everything is designed with the guest’s comfort in mind – simply amazing! When I return to Kyoto, this will undoubtedly be the hotel I choose, without hesitation.

The staff are very polite and helpful. They can speak English well. The room is spacious and very clean. The only downside is the closest bus station is 10minutes away by walking. We have an elderly companion during the trip but overall, the hotel experience was great.

Beautiful town.

Beautiful town. Lots to see and do including shrines, seeing the monkeys and great shopping and food. One thing was the the buses don’t run very late so sometimes it was difficult to get home of a night.

I stayed for 7 days and travelled with eldery, so i could explore more of kyoto Kiyomizu, fushimi and arashiyama is good but too crowded. What i like is Kurama-dera Temple(Stunning view with lots of maple tree and many site to visit, around 45, and got to experience Eizan Railway that is better and cheaper and longer than arashiyama's sagano train), Daigoji Temple(My mom really liked it as it is calming, not crowded at all and there is garden that is so beautiful), and teamLab Biovortex (definitely a must visit, we liked the ocean section where we can color aquatic animal and it can be scanned so it will move around in the wall!)

Kyoto has so many surprises!

Kyoto has so many surprises! The Kamo River, Pontocho Alley and the gardens were our favorite! So many good restaurants to dine in and it's a very walkable city. So easy to get around. The Fushimi Inari is just a short train ride away. This is a must-visit city in Japan.

We have been to Kyoto before, during Cherry Blossom season. The number of tourists was physically overwhelming, mentally exhausting and, at times, potentially dangerous. It was very nice to re-visit the popular sights without, literally, millions of people crowding the street and thousands of Instagrammers cluttering up the views with their vapid, narcissistIc posturing.

Historical and beautiful.

Historical and beautiful. Transportation is easier to navigate than other city and food are also great. Considering to visit all temple and collecting the Goshuin -> that took a lot of time :) Considering an option of 1 day Kyoto bus and subway for 1100¥ is a great option for unlimited ride. Day trip to INE is worth also consider but be aware of weather in Dec, can be tricky. Also mostly place in INE is seems to be open on weekend. I was here in Kyoto for foliage and found what I wanted. Still a lot of place couldn't see but let's the next time visit to reclaim.

The Japanese culture, the Japanese put there respect for their country and fellow citizens ahead of their own personal needs. No garbage, no cigarette buts on the streets, no talking on mobile phones in restaurants or on transit. The rest of the world should learn respect from the Japanese.

That was by far the best hotel I've stayed in in my life. The level of hospitality was beyond words. The design of the hotel was traditionally Japanese, incredibly beautiful. Everything was super clean, including the onsen. I can't stress enough how beautiful is the ryokan and how pleasant was my stay. Maybe it isn't the cheapest option, but once in a life experience.

All staff were fantastic! Beautiful hotel located in quiet area, but still only 10min walk from Kyoto station. Room was wonderful, modern, fresh & spotlessly clean. Bathroom was spacious & best shower of the trip. Only thing was having to large suitcases room was a tad tight but were able to roll cases under the beds so worked fine.

We had a very large suite with all comforts, wich made us enjoy our stay in the city at best. The hotel is located at equal distance from the city center and the main station and it is well served by public transportation, making it a versatile base both for visiting the city and for outdoor trips. Also, the street was very quiet.

The hotel is very near the main train station. The breakfast buffet was the best we have had in our 6 week Japan trip, with a lot of choices for European tastes. I loved the two different types of bread pudding especially. It was also great to have an Onsen, albeit a small one, right across the street.
