MASCOS Hotel Masuda Onsen is a wonderful place to stay. The staff are lovely and welcoming, and the whole hotel feels clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The onsen is fantastic, relaxing, well-maintained, and especially impressive because they allow tattoos, which is rare and very forward-thinking in Japan. The rooms are spotless and comfortable, with great amenities and everything you need for a relaxing stay. The location is convenient and makes it easy to explore Masuda. Overall, a perfect mix of style, comfort, and hospitality. Highly recommended.

The rooms are quite small, but very comfortable. Also, since it's the cheapest place in Masuda, it's the best place to stay if you're on a budget. The complimentary breakfast is great and the staff is wonderful. I accidentally overslept past the check-out time and the staff were very kind about it. Even though the bathrooms are shared, they are very clean and well-kept. There is also a bowling alley, karaoke, and a movie theater in the same building. Only about a 10 minute walk from Masuda Station. I highly recommend staying here.

The location was beautiful, by the sea. Very accessible by car, don't know about public transport. The hosts were great and even though they did not speak English, made good conversation with us. Definitely recommended!

Never been in a hotel like this before. And I liked it. First of all, the staff. They are all very kind. Second, the location. Great views! Funky design. And frankly, there are not many hotels in that area. So we were intrigued by the high rating on Booking.com at such a low price. And we found out the concept is actually quite cool - literally! You can eat whatever you feel like. There is a relatively small buffet of freshly prepared stuff. And then there is a virtually endless supply of frozen food, which you can microwave and/or grill on the spot. To boot, there is a huge selection of (alcoholic) drinks, free of charge too.

Walkable from Tsuwano station. The reception staff were very kind. As a solo traveller I prefer to get a plan with breakfast and dinner and I enjoyed the diverse and delicious meals at Yutorelo Tsuwano. Each meal has great variety and menus don't repeat from day to day so you get the opportunity to eat different food. I enjoyed the free tea, coffee, snack and drinks offered in the "cafe". As for sight-seeing in Tsuwano, the town presents the sites with a range of ukiyo-e pictures to show the historical landscapes and townscapes and we can see what remains today. A lot of the town is well preserved from the Edo period. Both the Inari shrine and the Tsuwano castle involves some hiking so the hotel's shared onsen bath is a treat to come back to after a day of exploring. If you are a day-tripper you can leave your luggage at the kind bike shop in front of the station and cover the town by pedal power. If you come on weekends you can catch the old steam train which runs from Tsuwano to Yamaguchi

Masuda itself is quite small with not much to do but it is close to Hagi and there are a lot of beautiful beaches in the area if you are here when the weather is nice. We had exceptionally good food while staying in this small onsen town. Both Japanese and fantastic "yoshoku" western food

While many may find this unglamorous tourist destination unsatisfying, the townscape viewed from the bus was tranquil, and I felt as though a leisurely stroll would reveal glimpses of the city's prosperity in the Middle Ages. I also wanted to explore the banks of the Takatsu River, a first-class river without a dam. The next time I visit Masuda, I'll take my time to fully appreciate it. The Shimane Prefectural Arts and Culture Center "Grand Toi" stands out in this unassuming tourist spot. The building, with its abundant use of local Sekishu tiles on its roof and walls, is truly impressive. It's the pride of the people of Shimane Prefecture, not just the people of Masuda. I've heard that many people visit Masuda solely for this purpose, and it's no wonder. Next time, I'd like to plan my trip around the museum's exhibition and a concert in the main hall. Additionally, there's a weekly Iwami Kagura performance in the hall in the station building every Saturday night, so be sure to check it out.

1. The local rivers (Takatsugawa River and Masuda River) and the Sea of Japan coast featured in the film "Takatsugawa" were beautiful. The residents' love for the river, mountains, and sea is evident in the everyday scenery, making this a great area that other areas should emulate. 2. The valuable historical site of Nanao Castle Ruins, located on the city's hills, suggests that Masuda was an important cultural center and town in Shimane at the time. ⇔ There are many cultural sites, including those of Kakinomoto no Hitomaro and Sesshū, and two days is not enough time to see everything. 3. If you travel further, you can explore the source of the Takatsugawa River and the valleys created by river changes due to faults. 4. Easily accessible from Hiroshima Station (by express bus), this town offers a combination trip to Hiroshima, making it a valuable "hidden gem where you can enjoy both nature and historical sites."

I haven't been back home much since I got married and started university, but the area has been redeveloped and is now a much better place. I was particularly surprised to see the opening of Grand Front Osaka. I never thought an ALFEE concert would be held there. But the best thing about it is the scenery. It may seem like an ordinary rural area, but I love the grandeur of the Sea of Japan, the modest yet charming gardens, and the beautiful mountains in all four seasons. I'm very proud of it. Incidentally, I spent my high school years at Masuda High School at the foot of Mount Nanao. I always stop by when I go home. One of my hopes is that my alma mater is doing well.
