We had the privilege of spending one night at Temple Lodging Shukubo Kakurinbo on Mount Minobu, and it was one of the most beautiful and memorable experiences of our trip in Japan. The lodging was authentic, peaceful, and cozy, and the entire team welcomed us with warmth and care. The dinner and breakfast were true works of art — both delicious and beautifully presented. We were also fortunate to experience a private tea ceremony, thoughtfully arranged for us at the home of tea teacher. Our guide, Tomo, was kind, considerate, and made the whole experience unforgettable. We also attended the morning prayer at Kuon-ji Temple, which was deeply moving. Thank you to everyone at Kakurinbo for your gracious hospitality — we will always remember our time with you.

Staying at the Habanobo Temple is not just a simple stay, but a meaningful experience. The place is comfortable, the rooms are large and clean, and the traditional meals are delicious. But what we appreciated even more was the chance to experience the everyday life of monks. The monk at Habanobo explained a lot of things to us about Buddhism, suggested what to visit nearby, and involved us in different activities, for free.

The house was spotlessly clean and the location was simply perfect. We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room with futon bedding, which was both comfortable and cozy it gave us the feeling of experiencing Japan like the locals do. The host was incredibly attentive throughout our stay, always making sure we had everything we needed. He even went out of his way to pick us up from Shin-Fuji Station and kindly drove us back when we checked out. Although the house has an amazing view of Mount Fuji, unfortunately the mountain was hidden by clouds during our visit. Still, the setting was so peaceful and beautiful that we didn’t feel we missed out. We rented bicycles and cycled to the Shiraito Falls, which was absolutely breathtaking. If you enjoy nature and want to spend some quiet time away from the crowds, I highly recommend renting a bike and exploring the area it was one of the highlights of our trip.

Due to an error in Google Maps' vehicle information, we found out there were no cars available to return to the hotel. We faced a 3-hour walk from Asama Shrine to Shiraito Park, mostly uphill with barely any streetlights. Just when we were on the verge of breaking down and feeling helpless, the host kindly drove to pick us up and brought us back to the hotel. Without her help, we would’ve had to walk the entire way 😭😭😭. On top of that, the hotel’s environment is fantastic—stepping out the door, you’re greeted by a lovely garden, and just a few steps away is the stunning Shiraito Waterfall. It’s absolutely worth the long journey!

The free meal was wonderful and was just what we needed after a big day of travel and before an even bigger one the next day. Our later arrival was graciously accommodated for and the hosts were so lovely to chat to and went above and beyond to make sure our night (and the night of the other guests) was what we were looking for.
