Great onsen, which included outdoor pools with sea view. Great gluten free breakfast and dinner for the of us with a wheat/gluten allergy. Lovely, friendly and attentive staff, some spoke good English. Pretty location, Great hiking nearby on the peninsula.

In my opinion the bad recommendations are not justified. One of the best price-performance ratio we had in wakayama. The rooms are spacious, everything was clean and the view is amazing.

Maru House was so comfortable, with everything you would need, and extra thoughtful details. Beds were so warm and the house cozy and clean. It was easy walking distance to the station and town/ waterfront.

Honestly everything was amazing. Great building, view, facilities, bedrooms, common room, clean and the price is ridiculously good. The host went above and beyond, driving me to the convenience store and bus station early in the morning, and sharing a beer with me in the evening and gave me the best restaurant recommendation. Location very good for Nachi Taisha too.

The house was spotless and had all the necessary amenities for a very comfortable stay. We loved that it’s a fusion of traditional Japanese and modern interior decor. Looks like it has just been done up. All the appliances look new. Our host is a lovely lady who showered our child and us with omiage and treats. Wish we could stay longer!

The owner personally drove us back to the station and was super friendly and hospitable. Would really recommend this place for anyone staying around here in Nachikatsuura. Bonus points for having a family mart right next door.

I spent one night in Kii-Katsuura after walking the Kumano...

I spent one night in Kii-Katsuura after walking the Kumano Koda Daimon-Zaka section up to the Nachisan shrine and waterfall. It is a four hour train ride from Osaka but we’ll worth it to see this beautiful area in Japan. Just to warn you, the iconic red pagoda near the waterfall is currently being restored and is covered in tarpaulin until early next year. Katsuura is a sleepy fishing and onsen town. Visit the fishery on the port at 7am to see the daily tuna auction. A great experience is bathing in the cave onsen at Hotel Urashima on an Island five minutes by ferry from Katsuura.

The place was perfect to venture every day to gorgeous places, part of the so called ‘Kumano Kodo’ route, visiting the most breathtaking locations we have ever seen. Local buses take you to every direction: from the Nachi Falls to Hongu (via Shengu), all of which are the main reasons, to visit Nachi-Katsuura. Walking around the quiet town, however, is also a good idea: the seashore is spectacular, walking or biking around, and admiring the charming, original old houses, dotted around the place. You can also witness a genuine tuna auction, a ten minute walk from the house, if you are willing to get up before 7am. Most importantly, I must mention local people. In general, all over Japan we find people charming and kind. In Nachi-Katsuura they go out of their way to help you! We were looking for a bakery (there are several, with yummy products) and a local resident, we only asked to instruct us in the correct direction - actually walked with us to three, before finding what we were after. Equally, all bus drivers were so helpful always, we just fell in love with them. Our host was equally kind, as were his friends: helping with our luggages, and serving us wonderful food at his lovely restaurant.

Good points: There are plenty of restaurants and it's reasonably priced, so you won't have any trouble staying overnight. Seafood, ferries, day spas, and souvenir shops are all close to the station, so you can spend a fulfilling time. Even traveling by train can be enjoyable as long as you manage your time carefully. There is an arcade in the shopping district, which was helpful when it was lightly raining. Bad points: There are two exits to the station, but only one has an elevator, so if you have a stroller or wheelchair, you may need to take a detour depending on your destination. There aren't many convenience stores. Be aware that buses and trains don't run very often if you're going far away. Compared to the city, the whole town goes to bed early, so it's best to check the time before you go.

We stayed for three nights.

We stayed for three nights. Breakfast on the first and second day was Japanese, which was good. On the third day, we had a so-called European breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs with Tom ketchup, corn soup, and raw vegetables. We did complain about it, and in response, they said they were absolutely not equipped for guests staying longer than three days.

I'm truly sorry. 🙇‍♀️ I think it would be better to choose a different accommodation facility next time. 🙇‍♀️👍 We are powerless. I'm sorry. 🙇‍♀️🙏 I didn't report the manager's incompetence. I was expressing my concerns about not being allowed to use the room even though I had paid for it, and my thoughts on the trip. I think it would be better to choose a different facility next time. This is a decision I make, and it would be better if they clearly refused to accept any future reservations. I now know for sure that I will never be allowed to use their services again. That's all.
