The hotel is located within walking distance from the train station. Our room was spacious with a lovely view on the mountains behind the town. Breakfast was the best we’ve had during our stay in Japan! And the staff was very friendly and polite, which made our stay an amazing experience.

Fine with choices both for Wsterners and Asian guests alike. People say that it is a business Hotel but really the compact rooms were fine as travellers or workers alike are out most of the day anyway. 3 minutes from Nagaoka Station was good for us and also Taxi ranks close by or at Hotel door.

It was the national badminton tournament.

It was the national badminton tournament. It was my first time in the city, but the hotel was near a nice square, so I had no trouble finding a restaurant. For an izakaya, I took a taxi to the station. The prices were reasonable and the sashimi was delicious, so it was a really enjoyable time for a group meal. Near the interchange, Kaihomaru, a seafood market and sushi restaurant, was located right when it opened! I thoroughly enjoyed the cheap and delicious sushi! The rice was delicious everywhere!

After the collapse of the bubble economy, there was a time of worry when the area around the station became deserted, but recently large-scale commercial facilities have been built throughout the area, and it feels like the town is regaining its vitality. In winter, there is an environment where you can ski, and in summer, there is a fireworks festival with the largest fireworks in Japan, with a three-foot fireworks display. In the town, there is also the Yamamoto Isoroku Memorial Museum, soba noodles from Kojimaya, which is a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency, delicious sake is everywhere, and there are hot springs in the suburbs. Although it is the central city of the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture, it is an attractive place with an atmosphere that reminds you of the original Japanese landscape.

As expected of a historic town, the various facilities exude a high level of culture. Nagaoka City has expanded significantly in recent years, and I felt that the connections between its many valuable facilities were not fully developed. To make it more accessible, I think it would be a good idea to provide clearer directions and information on the attractions. In particular, I felt that there was a lack of comprehensive guidance aimed at travelers visiting by public transport rather than by car. The connections between prefectural, municipal, and private facilities are not particularly clear to visitors. As a traveler, I hope that a system of learning and tourism will be created that takes into account the connections between Nagaoka City's diverse cultures. I am always impressed by the depth of the permanent exhibits at the Prefectural Museum. The snow country experience was appropriate, but the prehistoric exhibits were truly impressive. However, traveling by public transport was actually quite difficult.
