It's probaby the least time of the year that you should go to since it's like a ghost town. Most restaurant, resorts and activities are close or under renovation but if you like peace and quiet or your probably a local who has a car and drive around then this place is a nice place to visit. But I enjoyed the weather this time. View is always beautiful and admirable. One of the best places I've been to in my lifetime.

Niseko is so popular now that's it's becoming overcrowded. People can get very frustrated at ski queues when others push in front. Think about staying in Kutchan nearby. Supermarkets there offer great produce at affordable prices. Also think about hiring a car as public transport sucks big time in rural Japan.

Australian perspective: Niseko has some great skiing and a lot of terrain compared to other resorts but it is now really busy (although not from a lift queue perspective - you rarely have to wait more than a few minutes except first lift) having been 'discovered', so in the town, getting restaurant bookings can be difficult and gen there is a queue for the bars. It is also quite regulated compared to other resorts. Go out of bounds at your peril because if ski patrol catch you they will confiscate your passes. Understandable I guess because with the increased numbers they are getting more people going out of bounds who prob shouldn't (no avalanche gear etc.) causing issues. This isn't such an issue at other resorts though. Have been there 4 times and its not quite what it was.

Account for a couple of rest days in between skiing to explore the town and neighbouring activities - wish we could have done this more but skiing was a priority. Great ski town with some fabulous food or high quality food truck options. Some popular places you need to wait in line but majority can be walk in.

Beautiful tourist town close to Mt. Yotei.

Beautiful tourist town close to Mt. Yotei. Perfect for winter sports. The best snow (powder) that you will remember all life long. Be careful about restaurant closing time: after 9pm there is nothing open.

Niseko is the place you go when you want to travel/ski but want to feel like your still at home with all your comforts. The mountains pretty nice and not as busy as I expected in the late season. Hirafu is stupidly over priced for accomodation and food. it's the Whistler of Japan. Lift tickets are expensive compared to most other resorts in Japan. I only came because I had to do some training at Grand Hirafu. I ended up staying in Kutchan for 5 of my 10 days as its more affordable and has more of an authentic Japanese feel, although you then may have to wait for buses and you'll be sacrificing the night life if thats what you're into. Overall I would not return to Niseko unless it was a powder day and I was riding with some friends. Theres plenty of other options to choose from in my opinion.

We had booked a twin room as there were no doubles available. Great storage facilities, very helpful and friendly staff, great transport arrangements right outside the door to get us up to and back from the ski resorts. It was a nice walk when we did it, into Niseko and back. Breakfast was a buffet style and offered a fabulous choice of both hot and cold foods. We used the dining room twice in the evening - a limited choice - but it was okay. We were met at the point where we were dropped off in town on our arrival and driven to the hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at OAC lodge. The accommodation including shared bathroom facilities were clean and tidy. The beds were comfy and the rooms were more spacious than we expected. The separate ski storage room also made for a convenient and clutter-free stay. The downstairs restaurant made dinners easy and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The private shuttle bus service to Niseko Village was also a bonus and the public Milk Kobo bus stop (which also had great cheesecakes/tarts) was only a 10 minute walk away.

With so much of Niseko now fancy new apartment buildings and hotels, Grandpapa is a welcome old-school style ski lodge. Super friendly / helpful staff, comfortable rooms / beds, and a free shuttle bus that gets you to the Hirafu Gondola for 8am. It's also less than 10mins walk from most of the Hirafu restaurants and bars (and 2 mins from the famous Fridge Bar), but on a nice quiet street, so you get the best of both worlds. Very reasonably priced too!

Beautiful & spacious rooms with gorgeous views of the snow. Direct access to the Niseko Village slopes. The buffet breakfast was lovely and very worth it as there’s not many cafes/restaurants close by for breakfast. They have a very nice bar: restaurant downstairs with delicious food, alcoholic drinks & the best hot chocolate in Niseko. Easy access to Niskeko-Yo (5 minute gondola) and Hirafu town too (20 min free shuttle).
