Nozawa Onsen is terrible skinng mountain.

Nozawa Onsen is terrible skinng mountain. Either too easy or dangerous with kamikaze skiers and snowboarders. The only restaurants we could find on the town were owned and run by Australians. There are a lot of Japanese guests but we could not work out where they went for dinner

Nozawa Onsen is a charming traditional Japanese ski town.

Nozawa Onsen is a charming traditional Japanese ski town. The resort has wide, open and long ski runs. We are lucky in that 2024/25 is an exceptionally good season in terms of snowfall for Japan. Unfortunately, there were also too many unusually windy days.

I love that Nozawaya was conveniently located close to the ski walk/escalator. It is at the center of town. The staffs are so welcoming, responsive and respectful. They go out of their way to ensure that our stay is as pleasant as possible. We felt so happy to stay in Nozawaya.

Nozawa Onsen is a great ski town, with a great mountain to explore. I really liked the authenticity of this town, so easy to get around (walked everywhere) and plenty of food options (mostly all traditional) available. Some restaurants need to book in advance, but we had no problems finding something.

The powder was insane.

The powder was insane. The slopes/runs are great along with the lifts. We never had to wait to get on the lift. It is some "work" to get there. Two train rides, a 25 bus ride, and a 5-10minute walk.... The shop to rent equipment including jacket and pants was efficient/fast - and not a big line given the high season of between christmas and new years. The free shuttle around town makes it easy to get around town. The people are so nice there. Lunchtime can get busy slopeside where you have to wait, so try to eat earlier or later to avoid. In town is a food court area with multiple options for eating (some require cash, others take credit card). That is nice when with a group.

Wonderful little Onsen town, 13 free public Onsen baths to choose from! There are little streams running everywhere through the town, providing a peaceful soundtrack. Very friendly and helpful locals. Took the gondola up and found some great hikes (summer visit) to do around the top of the ski resort. Make sure to read up a bit on Onsen etiquette.

The property was very clean, the room had an authentic Japanese feel to it! the owener even gave us beautiful japenese gowns to wear. The owner went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. He picked us up and dropped us up at the bus station, told us all about good restaurants and cafes nearby and was very responsive. It is also great value for money. Would definitely stay here again when in Nozawa Onsen.

The couple who run Oyado Tamayura are delightful. The hot baths after a days' skiing are AMAZING. The location of the guesthouse - right next to the main lifts and a short walk into town for restaurants etc couldn't have been better. And Nozawa Onsen was just perfect for us - the village is typically Japanese with so many options for meals. The scenery amazing. The best five days of our whole stay in Japan.

The owner and staff went out of their way to ensure we had an incredible experience in Nozawa Onsen. The accomodation was beautifully renovated and very comfortable. Our family had two tatami rooms with futons and ensuite toilet and shower which was important to my wife. When my daughter injured her wrist and the local clinic was closed, Snow Palace staff drove her to Iiyama Hospital.

The offered breakfast for Y1,000 was fantastic. Filling and a range of Japanese breakfast offerings. Location was good, with a bus stop right on the corner of the hotel location. Bus could take us into the city centre or up to the snow lifts but stops at 5pm, keep that in mind. Host was fantastic, always friendly and helpful service.

Very comfortable, quiet and modern hotel with a mountain town feeling. Beautiful view from the room, corridor + bathroom. Dinner and breakfast were an extensive set menu of Japanese dishes with a variety of meat, fish & vegetables, rice & soup. Staff were friendly and some spoke English.
