Everything was just great! Very helpful staff, great food and free facilities (f.e. private hot pot, karaok,…). We stayed for three nights, but two would have been enough, because there is not much to see nearby. But if you want to cool down your head with locals it is just great.

The service from the staff was immaculate with attention to every small detail. They were nice enough to take care of my luggage before i checked in and brought it directly to my room when i returned to check in. The was a nice welcome cheese cake and tea during check in as well as roasted marshmallow and coffee later in the evening. Dinner and breakfast was quite tasty and i enjoyed them. The view from my room was nice especially in the morning as i could see the sun rise, a perfect way to start the day. The "pearl aurora" outdoor onsen was amazing, it made my skin actually glitter because of all the pearl powder which was honestly a little bit funny.

We stayed here after visiting Ise Jingu.

We stayed here after visiting Ise Jingu. Really enjoyed the open air onsen, and the spacious tatami room. Toba is a VERY small town and very quiet with not much to do. Ate some great seafood at a local restaurant. Only stayed in Toba one night before taking the ferry and driving back to Tokyo.

Toba itself is nothing much - which makes it a great place...

Toba itself is nothing much - which makes it a great place to relax - but the view from our hotel over the bay was wonderful. We've stayed twice in hotels with a sea view and it's very relaxing. If you like aquariums, the one in Toba is supposed to be very good, but we didn't go. However, we've been twice to Mikimoto Pearl Island, which well worth visiting if you are interested in the history of cultured pearls. There's a demonstration of pearl diving and an interesting museum. The Ise Grand Shrine is not far by train and worth visiting once. Toba is great for seafood and especially Ise Ebi (Japanese spiny lobster) which is served in many different ways.

I had spiny lobster sashimi at The Kaiya.

I had spiny lobster sashimi at The Kaiya. Apparently, local fishermen catch it every day. It was fresh and delicious. The price was based on market value, 4,300 yen for a medium-sized lobster. It was quite pricey, but I guess that's unavoidable. The town was deserted, but with Mijumaru Park and the aquarium, it might be a good place for families. Pearl Street is closing and will be renovated and reopened in the summer of 2027. I hope it will become a little more lively. I traveled by car, which was comfortable, but there is no parking on Spiny Lobster Road, so I parked in the Toba Aquarium parking lot and had to walk quite a bit. It might be difficult for elderly people.

The town is extremely strange, with many dilapidated buildings. It gave us the impression of a ghost town, although oddly enough, it seems to be a seaside resort. We didn't understand this town. We won't be going back.

I always stay in Toba when I visit Ise Shrine, as it's close...

I always stay in Toba when I visit Ise Shrine, as it's close by. Most of the accommodations face the beautiful sea, so the only choice is between Japanese and Western-style, and it's a city I love. However, the area in front of Toba Station sometimes feels deserted, which makes me sad. I think this is also due to the effects of COVID-19, but there are fewer shops at Toba Ichibankan than there used to be, and the souvenir space has become much smaller. I was also shocked to see that the two stores where I could get Akafuku, in Futami and Toba, have disappeared. I hope that Mie's beloved tourist destinations will not succumb to COVID-19 and will recover. I'll visit again!!

Specificity of the hotel is that meals have to be ordered in advance, at booking stage. Otherwise no meals (not even breakfast) are available. It is an od japanese style Inn, you leave your shoes at the entrance and the home shoes at the entrance to your room. Very convenient room of two parts: one with beds and the other of living room style equipped with a japanese table 20 cm high and sitting on the flour (tatami). All very nice ! The host drove us to the station nearby and offered onigiri for the trip. Extremely nice and kind.

The buffet was excellent, the service impeccable, the onsen (bath) restorative. It was a bit difficult to find and we had to stop and ask a patrol car where the hotel was. They took us there, we following their car. Such amazing service!!!!

The hotel is beautifully located right next to the sea on a little cliff. Our room came wtih a beautiful view and was pretty big for japanese standards. The breakfast buffet came with a big choice and the dinner at the hotel was suberb.

Excellent hotel and onsen. Nice clean and spacious room. Convenient shuttle to the train station even though we didn't use it. Close to the aquarium and the ferry terminal.
