The location is so peaceful, very quiet area and very well equiped for being a small cabin. Very friendly staff and I loved the dinning area with complementary tea and coffee. Common showers are also very nice and clean!

This was the best value for money stay I had this trip. Highly recommend opting for dinner to be included with your stay. The steamed vegetables and meat with rice and soup was a sumptuous, healthy yet delicious meal especially at the end of a day's big hike. The dorm beds were comfortable, and it was a really nice luxury to get a private onsen experience (especially the outdoor one). Though there was no convenience store around, the hostel has a very good range of snacks, instant noodles, buns at good prices so you don't have to worry about not having food around.

Perfect location, close to the bus stop, Kumano Kodo and Hongu Taisha. Places to eat and Cafes are a short walk away as well as a Post Office which has ATMs. The house is a home from home, well equipped, comfortable, nicely designed and clean. There is a hot and cold water station in the kitchen as well as a stock of snacks, carefully selected catering for all tolerances. There is even a separate laundry room, where I quite happily washed and dried. What sets this place from the rest is the consideration that has gone into everything to ensure that your stay is as comfortable and as pleasant as possible, which in it self, reflects the thoughtfulness and kindness of the host. To say we were well looked after, would be a massive understatement. Mandy-san is a very special person and her kindness has deeply touched us. Besides having the luck to enjoy her many skills as the wonderful host she is, my girlfriend also had an acupuncture session with her. Mandy-san was both incredibly gentle and precise, almost as if she had a sixth sense. Our stay at SOLA guesthouse in one word? Magical! :)

Absolutely gorgeous house, spotless clean, yet a “lived in” family house all possible amenities, appliances and utensils. The pictures are correct - you have your own view of the largest torii in Japan, presiding over rice fields. In the centre of Hongu, close to a few local eateries and 300mm from the visitor centre, bus stop and on the crossroads of the Kumano trails. We were concerned that there would ne noise from the adjacent road but the town is so quaint that that wasn’t not the case at all. We have spent two weeks travelling Japan with family and this was hands down the best place and we all regretted we didn’t stay longer. Thoroughly recommended.
