Jua House is extremely beautiful, furnished with a lot of love, every corner thoughtfully decorated with respect for the local culture. The rooms are beautiful, too, ane the bathrooms and showers are great. The place is really more beautiful than on the pictures. There's a beautiful terrace, where breakfast is usually served, and then another roof top terrace on top – ideal for yoga or sunbathing. The breakfast was amazing! Jua House is known as a bakery, too. There were freshly baked bread, fresh fruit, swahili specialties, omelets, juice and much more every morning. Even the coffee was good, sourced and roasted by a small local company/café/school project. Additionally, there was tea time every afternoon with more house-baked pastries. We wish they would offer lunch and dinner too – we would've probably just stayed at the house all day:) There was filtered drinking water available all day. Amani was super helpful and so nice. We stayed for three nights but we wish we would've stayed for a week or more. They had us picked up at the airport/airstrip by boat and organized transport at reasonable prices whenever we needed it. Shela town is tiny, there are no cars or even tuk-tuks, only a handful of motorcycles coming from Lamu town – other than that it's just small boats, lots of donkeys and an occasional camel for transportation.

Kijani is a charming little hotel in Shela, well located to discover the village on foot, and the nearby islands by boat. It has everything one needs for a perfect holiday; provides a quiet and peaceful backdrop. We loved the flexibility of management (even with last minute issues), return boat transfers included in the price, amazing breakfast and restaurant. Fantastic staff (management, reception, cleaning team, restaurant, kitchen, guards, in short: EVERYONE): kind, attentive, all while being respectful of privacy. We have stayed elsewhere in Lamu and Kijani truly stands out. Thank you.

I loved my time at Shela Bliss. The owner was so kind, always available to help, organized fun activities every day, and made amazing breakfasts with fresh juices every morning. Felt like staying with a friend! I was really impressed by how clean and well-kept the place was. The rooms, bathrooms, and common areas were all fresh and tidy-it made the stay so comfortable. Abdullah clearly takes pride in the place, and it shows! Would happily stay again.

Lamu is the real Swahili Coast. The atmosphère is authentic. With everyone on foot because there are no cars the sense of community is very strong. Architectural style of the village has been well maintained. There are good local eateries, and the peponi restaurant in Shella village is outstanding. We went everywhere by water taxi. Charming!

I liked that Lamu is a small town, easy to walk about and no pollution say for donkey dung. There are many eateries with all kinds of meals, loved the seafood restaurants near the jetty. Lamu is safe for travellers and the community is very welcoming. Easy to get around either by speed boat, dhow or slow engine boats if not in a rush. The weather is warm and windy especially in the evening. People prefer to walk about and sit around the seafront at night where there is good ocean breeze before retiring for bed. Fishing is a great recreation activity which we all enjoyed while in Lamu.

Lamu is a small conservative town rich in culture with very friendly people. I like that most restaurants are at the beachfront and I can recommend a few with what they offer: 1. Forodhani Lamu- for local cuisine like pilau, biriyani etc. It was the most affordable. 2. Sailors Joint- for shawarma, pizza and sea food. I went here almost everyday for their shawarma, so so flavorful. 3. Bush Gardens Sea food restaurant- for seafood especially. Had the best fresh mango juice. 4. Rangarelli Cafe- in Shela has the best local food there 5. Gelamu- for gelato ice-cream, this is in Shela.

Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history. The people are very friendly and welcoming. For instance - the town can be like a labyrinth, which makes it a bit challenging sometimes to find spots - even with Google Maps. Either people ask you if you need help or you can ask them and they show you the way - many of them even walked us to the location. This experience was so wonderful - I would definitely come back again.

My stay at Msafini Hotel was great! The staff (including but not limited to Joshua, Dickson, and Davis) were exceedingly kind and friendly and I can tell that they went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. I really enjoyed the large breakfasts included with an array of options to choose from and I could also choose when and where I wanted to take my breakfast. My room was on the top floor with a stunning view and the location was convenient with the jetty and Shela Beach close by. I got my money's worth for 3 nights.

The staff was really friendly and organised a boat taxi from airport in advance. Despite of a technical overbooking they found a good solution for all travellers. Instead of the booked room we got an Apartment next door. The Location ist perfect to walk around Lamu Town and visit the fort and Museum and the small shops in the second row roads. The breakfast was good. You could choose between Continental or Suaheli breakfast. We had both.

I missed my morning flight on my day of travel to Lamu. The hotel manager was so handy in helping me book another flight the same day. He helped organize activities for me and guided me within the town. The hotel stuff were so friendly. I read the history of Subira House. It is a rustic "Omanish" house. I had a whole balcony for myself. I enjoyed my stay.
