From where do I even begin explaining my gratitude to the folks in Nakorn River View! We arrived at Pakse and the airline misplaced our luggage. We had requested for an airport pick up from Nakorn River View and Wan who runs the place was a blessing in disguise. She picked us up, helped us sort out the luggage issue with the airlines and also helped us shop some clothes and essentials in the interim. She constantly kept in touch with the airlines till we received our luggage the next evening. We then arrived at the hotel and I was wowed by the place. Spacious, clean big bungalows facing the river. The food at the restaurant was outstanding too. We ate at the hotel all 3 days. You can rent bikes, bicycles from the hotel. Wan is a local expert and she can recommend and arrange trips by bikes, private cars to the bolevean plateau and surrounding areas. On the last day, she packed us breakfast and dropped us to the bus stop in Pakse. I think she might have also put in a good word with the driver to ensure we reached Thakkek safe and sound. :D I would definitely recommend this place if you are visiting Pakse / Champasak. You will be pampered by Wan :)

The hotel had all modern reqiurements and my room had a beautiful view of the Mekong River and a stunning sunrise that I could see from my bed if desired. The restaurant was excellent and it was great to be able to cool off and relax beside the pool. Although I did not have time to use them there were bicycles available free to ride to the town and surrounding countryside. The staff were helpful and polite.

I had a wonderful stay here! The rooms are spacious and well-maintained, with clean, comfortable beds. The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with anything you need. One of the highlights of my stay was the peaceful and green common area—a perfect spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy the surroundings. The atmosphere is calm and refreshing, making it an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of Pakse city. Highly recommend!

I was in Champassak during the Wat Phou Festival which was great and interesting and then returned for one night after being in the 4000 Islands before heading north. The Temple are marvellous and would like to see it without all the tourists and festival goers but I enjoyed the festival particularly the opening and the Alms Ceremony for the monks. We went down the Wat Oum Tomo by a small private boat - a 2 hour trip each way around the island, but it was well worth it. Champassak is peaceful and encourages relaxation although I found bicycling in the rice paddies gave me insight into country life. My most vivid memory is sitting by the Mekong and watching the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen over a river that was as still as glass.

The roads in Champasak are very bad with massive pot holes, I recommend to hire a 4wd. Pakse has lots of markets to look at and there are some beautiful waterfall to look at just 1-2 hours drive. The Mekong river is amazing to look at also. I highly recommend going to the Vat Phou.

The Location of La Folie Lodge is breathtaking! The Mekong view, the sunsets, the gardens magical. However, equally wonderful was the fabulous Aum, who greeted us and helped organise our activities in Champasak. Her English was fabulous and she was so proactive, smart and hospitable! She gave us a bicycle torch in the evening, organised our bicycles on the boat to cycle to Wat Phu for the most perfect day of our holiday. If you are planing a Champasak vacation, Aum at La Folie is the lady to make holiday dreams come true!

There are some very good things about this guesthouse which I would love to highlight, but customer service is not one of them. Incredibly, the family who own and operate this guesthouse thought it was a good idea to hold a surprise 7 hour, drunken karaoke party just a few metres from our door. After several requests to stop they did eventually move a short distance, but the torture continued. I’m not sure how often they host karaoke parties, but I do know that there are several better hotels and guesthouses in town.

The restaurant area was beautiful with good food, overlooking the Mekong and a lovely garden area. The room was beautifully decorated with a lovely comfortable bed. We hired a motorbike to go to Wat Phou and got a ferry from the hotel’s jetty across the river to catch the Green paradise bus to Si Phan Don. The staff were superbly helpful.

This area is really beautiful. Very peaceful. Better than Paksé for sure. The owners of the hostel are very kind and they try to do the best to make you feel confortable. It's cheap the place comparing with others. And they have a good menu food.

Room was lovely and bed very comfortable, very clean room and bathroom. Nice veranda with view on the Mekong. How practical: Two luggage racks (this was the first in Laos). Food in the restaurant is very tasty.
