The staff were friendly, helpful, and always quick to assist whenever I needed anything. Breakfast was delicious, with a nice variety of dishes prepared with great care. Sook Village has to be the most serene & relaxing stay I’ve ever had. We wanted something that felt like it wasn’t touristy, something off the usual tourist map and this place delivered on all counts. It was so clean, comfortable and well laid. It feels like we found a gem- almost don’t want others to know about it so that it stays as a tourist secret! The bonus is the good work that we now know comes out of our staying and knowing how it is building the community up. Have already booked for next year! Stunning location!

The property is nestled close to the river with some foliage cover around. Its a bit away from the main road so not much noise , its quite quaint and neat. The room was big , with good working AC and other facilities. Everything was provided and catered to. The staff is also quite pleasent and always ready to help upfront. The guy gave me his headlight and hikinh shoes since i didn't have nice ones and said i could return it when it suits me. The breakfast was delicious and fulfilling, and with the river flowing below , its a wholseome.

Stunning property just by the river, everything is brand new and perfectly clean. The staff was so kind, offering to clean my room whenever I needed, always welcoming me with a smile. I had to extend my stay for another few nights cause it was so perfect. It’s located quite centrally, very close to shops and restaurants. The breakfast was really delicious and you can ask for toast with jam, coffee, tea and water at reception. I would stay here again!

Hidden away in a stunning riverside setting, this small-scale resort is a true gem. Sebastiaan is a fantastic host who goes above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome. One of the highlights is the swimming pool—rare in this area—offering a refreshing escape with breathtaking views over the river. The food is simply outstanding. In fact, this is the only place in Laos where I would confidently order a schnitzel or a hamburger—both are absolutely excellent. A wonderful stay in every way!

region is amazing after the hard yards on the vans to get there, river is stunning with all the adventure or peace your looking for. Go further to Muan Noy on the public boat an hour and really escape - loved it, had a week and could have stayed a month

Great relaxed town.

Great relaxed town. We spent 4 nights but could have stayed another to take advantage of the tours and hiking in the area. Plenty to do and good infrastructure to explore the area for a few days. We took a day trip to Muang Nogi as well as did some nice hikes up to view points of the surrounding area.

A very special little town located in between a blue river...

A very special little town located in between a blue river and tall mountains. Many hikes and tours organised by locals. Breathtaking views on every corner. An excellent place to rest for a bit, zone out or move around and see some caves, take the kayak or reach some mountain tops. A traditional Lao massage is a must have, costs only around $10 and is excellent!

I wanted to take a private tour on a long boat to Muang Ngoi...

I wanted to take a private tour on a long boat to Muang Ngoi, which I arranged with a tour group on opposite side of bridge. A driver was supposed to come to this meeting point at the tour company and drive me across the bridge to the put in point for accessing the long boat. Instead the driver never appeared and a young fellow escorted me to a set of very dangerous steps to the boat location. My guide and another guide had to help me as I descended probably 100 misshapen and broke concrete steps

Nong Khiaw is absolutely stunning location, I wish I could stay there longer at least 2-3 nights to explore more around the beautiful area including hiking in the mountains to see water falls and villages. I strongly recommend Nongkhiaw to fellow travellers. Best wishes

Nong Khiaw is an obligatory place the visit with amazing views, traditional Lao vibe, with a couple of exciting attractions nearby - view points in Nong Khiaw, different hiking routs, waterfalls, trips and homestay organised with local guides, boat trips etc. WiFi in almost every single restaurant and hostel. You can either try Lao cuisine or have your favourite western food if you're dealing with homesickness 😜 If you're planning your trip to see places nearby ask locals how can you get there as you may not need to pay for the guide.
