GermanyI'm a wildlife Photographer and I've been seeing Hemal as guide for several years now. He recently renovated the place as a guest house and it is fantastic.
The place:
The room was clean, AC and facilities are brand new and the view is exceptional! It is located a beautiful 10 minute walk from the park entrance, surrounded by green. And is directly next to the path that you would take for a night tour, which is a must in Sinharaja (And nobody is allowed to enter the Park at night). Hemal's wife is cooking and I doubt any of the luxury hotels near by will match the love and effort she put in every single meal. As it is common for Sri Lankan hospitality, they will always ask you if anything is missing or you have any special wishes and will drive to the nearest shop to buy it, without asking.
The guide (Which is much more important in Sinharaja!):
Hemal is known within the entire community as one who spots the most animals and knows so much about them. While all guides need to absolve basic training to become a guide, you can tell that he is truly passionate about the nature and he will tell you the English, Latin and partly the German names for most of the animals that we saw. You can also tell that he deeply respects the animals and the eco system and puts safety of you and the animals above anything. He grew up right in that village and he's is in the forest every day even on his days off so he always knows all the best spots!

GermanyIf you are looking for a quiet and cozy retreat right at the edge of the Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve, this is the place for you! You can literally watch wildlife, like the purple faced Monkey, white Monkeys and countless birds - right from the balcony.
While the lodge is simple, it has everything that is needed for a simple stay. It offers a spacious bathroom with warm water shower, a big bed plus a third smaller one.
Everything is held clean upon request by the owners, including a laundry service.
The owners deserve a special mention! Such friendly, helpful and welcoming people. Often times we felt like part of a family instead of just customers. The food (traditional Sri Lankan cuisine or western cuisine) is delicious and prepared and presented with love. The owners also take “special requests” if you want to dive deeper into Sri Lankan cuisine, like Kithul Raa (Sweet Palm Wine), home grown Manioka Mallum (Cassava root with Coconut) and probably much more.
Another special praise we want to give is to Ruan, a guide provided by the owners, for visiting Sinharaja protected area. While his price might seem rather high, it is totally worth it. He has deep knowledge and can show you some secrets of the forest.
And did I mention that the rental price is more than reasonable?
All in all, we were 100% happy with our stay at Sunshine Forest Lodge, would love to visit again and would recommend a stay to everyone visiting the area.

Sri LankaI stayed at Sinharaja Pitadeniya Hut in Lankagama during our research work in Sinharaja, and it was an excellent experience! The location is ideal—conveniently close to the main road and within easy access to both the Lankagama and Pitadeniya entrances of Sinharaja Forest Reserve. This made it very practical for our research activities.
The food was another highlight. Breakfast was included in the price and featured authentic local dishes, which were both delicious and satisfying. The host was incredibly friendly and supportive, always ensuring we were comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay.
The accommodation itself was spacious, clean, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable environment to relax after a day of work. Overall, it’s a great place for anyone visiting the area, whether for research or leisure. Highly recommended!

FranceI had a great stay at the Glitz Marriott. Ananda and his family are great hosts, really nice, attentive and excellent cooks. I originally planned to stay one night but extended my stay.
The room was large, clean and quiet. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea can be taken on the covered terrace with a beautiful view of the surrounding rice fields.
Ananda is also a very good guide, we did an expedition in the Sinharaja forest and saw a lot of animals. Ananda also organised a visit to a tea factory and took me to see the beautiful surrounding countryside.

AustraliaI booked a one-night stay here after a 2 night stay elsewhere, as I'd heard such wonderful things about Prabath as a host and guide of the rainforest - and I am so glad I did! Prabath is an incredibly kind, friendly and genuine host. He is so invested in the work he does, is deeply knowledgeable about the Sinhajara rainforest and took me on the best and most fun tour I think I've ever been on! He has such positive energy, is genuinely interested to get to know his guests, and provides an experience that is truly generous and unique.
He's the guy you want to go to if you're looking for an off-the-beaten-track experience of the forest. I learned so much about the local villages, frora and fauna, visited several waterfalls and had a lot of fun riding in the back of his motorbike! The accommodation itself is stylish and very comfortable. His wife is really sweet and a tremendous cook - one of the best dinners and breakfasts I've had in Sri Lanka! Thank you kindly for an unforgettable experience, Prabath. I look forward to returning some day!

BelgiumThe cabin is in the heart of the forest and among tea plantations. To reach the cabin you have to cross two small creeks where you can also enjoy the natural pools. The cabin is very clean with a comfortable bed, there I also an outside patio where dinner and breakfast are served. There is electricity thanks to a solar panel. Ravindra is a very kind and attentive host. He will help you with your backpacks and will bring your meals to the cabin. He also organises tour of the forest and accompany you to the forest with his tuk tuk. We asked for dinner and breakfast and both meals were very good and with large portions both prepared by Ravindra's mother. Both during the day and night you can see a lot of birds and other animals around the cabin. Definitely one of the best experiences in our trip to Sri Lanka.
