Our trip around Kandy was truly memorable!

Our trip around Kandy was truly memorable! We loved visiting the Temple of the Tooth, strolling around the peaceful lake, and exploring the vibrant local markets. The botanical gardens were stunning, and everything was easy to reach from the train station. Great food, kind people, and beautiful scenery all around.

People advised us to have 2 days in Kandy - we would have been fine with just one. The weather did not help us it rained on and off the entire time we were there. Temple of the Sacred Tooth - tick - walk around the Botanical gardens - tick - Shopping DISMAL - Kandyan dance performance extremely touristy. I wish we had allocated an extra day for the hill country instead of Kandy, Best meal we had was at the Hideaway Lounge. Central market - awful fresh food and spices but seriously hideous tourist souvenirs. Old building needs renovation.

Kandy is an interesting historic city, with a number of must see sights - the Temple of The tooth, a walk around the lake, the Big Buddha. Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are just on the edge of the city. The market is bustling. If you are there in late July/early August you may catch the Perahera Festival - a parade of dressed elephants, fire whirlers, Kandy Dancers, Drummers and whip crackers.

The city centre is very polluted but there is a lot to see and it is worth exploring. I highly recommend taking a tuk tuk tour to visit the sights. We had an adventurous day out with Explore Kandy with Sajith Tuk Tuk Tours.

Our visit to Kandy was truly wonderful, offering a perfect blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern convenience. The city is a joy to explore, and we found it remarkably easy to get around. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the iconic Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Maligawa) and taking a relaxing stroll around the picturesque Kandy Lake. We also loved exploring the serene Udawatte Kele Sanctuary, which felt like a peaceful escape. For those interested in the region's history, the Hanthana Tea Museum and the Kandy Wax Museum were both fascinating, and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens were an absolute must-see with their stunning and diverse flora. The dining scene in Kandy was delightful. For lunch, we enjoyed a delicious and authentic meal at the Sri Ramya Hotel in town. For a special evening, we had dinner at Sams restaurant, which offered not only great food but also a fantastic view of the city. We also grabbed a quick bite at the restaurant on the top floor of KCC, which was very convenient. Getting around the city was surprisingly simple. The PickMe and Uber apps work well, and we found that tuk-tuks are readily available and very affordable, making it easy to hop between different attractions. While traveling without young children, we believe Kandy offers many family-friendly activities. The Hanthana Tea Museum, Kandy Wax Museum, and the beautiful botanical gardens are all engaging spots that would surely be enjoyed by families. Overall, Kandy is an excellent destination that combines rich history with natural charm and practical accessibility. We highly recommend it for any traveler.

One of the best hotel at beautiful Kandy. Located bit far from the city centre. Bit hard to reach because of narrow road via mountains. But once we are reach the hotel so beautiful with amazing view. Fresh air, very greenery, calm and peaceful with warm Sri Lankan hospitality. Grand hills Kandy best place to be with your love once. Highly recommend. for everyone who are looking for a peaceful, nature friendly holiday. Thank you so much for best hospitality service. Keep it up your good work.

Stunning views over hills and forrests. The hotel is just at the cloudline, which makes the views even more exceptional - mist rolling over the hills! The staff could not be more attentive and the facilities were excellent. Best hopper in Sri Lanka for breakfast! Evening buffet was also great. We also enjoyed playing snooker on the full size table. An extremely restful stay, which was just what we needed after the rather stressful Ella to Kandy train journey!

Danushka looked after us really well and provided lots of helpful tips about how to get around in Kandy. The chef also cooked us an amazing meal, the best we have had so far in Sri Lanka. The villa itself is in a pleasant location 5km from the city centre but within easy reach via a tuk tuk or taxi on PickMe. It's quirkily decorated but more interesting than your average hotel as a result. We also enjoyed playing pool!

Hosts were exceptionally friendly and know how to run a quality hotel. Breakfast was especially amazing. We loved the variety of western and local foods and how the hosts explained things to us, we learnt a great deal about Sri Lankan food. Room was large and very very clean. Bathroom was the best we’ve had with a hot shower, good pressure and a shower screen! Close to town and many great restaurants & bars.

The owner was friendly and helpful. He offered to order food from town for us and paid with his card to make it easier. He also got us tuk tuks for our city tour and we ended up with the best drivers ever! We had a mix up with the rooms but that was solved quickly too. The villa is in a quiet area of Kandy and you can watch wildlife from the balcony.
