People advised us to have 2 days in Kandy - we would have been fine with just one. The weather did not help us it rained on and off the entire time we were there. Temple of the Sacred Tooth - tick - walk around the Botanical gardens - tick - Shopping DISMAL - Kandyan dance performance extremely touristy. I wish we had allocated an extra day for the hill country instead of Kandy, Best meal we had was at the Hideaway Lounge. Central market - awful fresh food and spices but seriously hideous tourist souvenirs. Old building needs renovation.

Kandy is an interesting historic city, with a number of must see sights - the Temple of The tooth, a walk around the lake, the Big Buddha. Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are just on the edge of the city. The market is bustling. If you are there in late July/early August you may catch the Perahera Festival - a parade of dressed elephants, fire whirlers, Kandy Dancers, Drummers and whip crackers.

The city centre is very polluted but there is a lot to see and it is worth exploring. I highly recommend taking a tuk tuk tour to visit the sights. We had an adventurous day out with Explore Kandy with Sajith Tuk Tuk Tours.

Kandy is the hill capital of Sri Lanka with lots of historical facts and the place to see the Sri Lankan culture. Places to see the Dalada Maligawa the Buddist holy temple, Peradeniya botanical garden and many historical places related to the colonial era.

Our visit to Kandy was truly wonderful, offering a perfect blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern convenience. The city is a joy to explore, and we found it remarkably easy to get around. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the iconic Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Maligawa) and taking a relaxing stroll around the picturesque Kandy Lake. We also loved exploring the serene Udawatte Kele Sanctuary, which felt like a peaceful escape. For those interested in the region's history, the Hanthana Tea Museum and the Kandy Wax Museum were both fascinating, and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens were an absolute must-see with their stunning and diverse flora. The dining scene in Kandy was delightful. For lunch, we enjoyed a delicious and authentic meal at the Sri Ramya Hotel in town. For a special evening, we had dinner at Sams restaurant, which offered not only great food but also a fantastic view of the city. We also grabbed a quick bite at the restaurant on the top floor of KCC, which was very convenient. Getting around the city was surprisingly simple. The PickMe and Uber apps work well, and we found that tuk-tuks are readily available and very affordable, making it easy to hop between different attractions. While traveling without young children, we believe Kandy offers many family-friendly activities. The Hanthana Tea Museum, Kandy Wax Museum, and the beautiful botanical gardens are all engaging spots that would surely be enjoyed by families. Overall, Kandy is an excellent destination that combines rich history with natural charm and practical accessibility. We highly recommend it for any traveler.

Villa olde Ceylon is run by the loveliest couple, the hotel is so beautiful and the husband built it from scratch. Incredible attention to detail and felt like a little oasis away from busy Kandy town. The rooms were clean, big and spacious with a balcony, AC and lovely hot showers. They were so helpful organising tuktuk’s for us and giving us recommendation as well as cooking us delicious breakfasts. A gorgeous start to our holiday in Sri Lanka, would highly recommend.

Pearl House is the home of a charming couple. It’s very close to Kandy city centre but feels like a little sanctuary away from the hustle & bustle of the town. The Sri Lankan breakfast of rice, eggs, fish curry, potato curry, sambol, yoghurt and fresh fruit was absolutely delicious and we didn’t need to eat again until dinner. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with very efficient a/c and ceiling fans. We highly recommend Pearl House. We LOVED it there.

This hotel was perfect for our stay in Kandy. It's location is fantastic. It is a two minute walk to the Temple of the Tooth and town centre, but when we were in our room it was very quiet and peaceful, although we didn't have a view, but didn't need one. The staff were very polite and friendly. Our breakfast was one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. I would so recommend this hotel if you are staying in Kandy.

The location was good only 1.9km from railway station but because ti is new, no-one knew where the hotel was, TukTuk driver eventually found it as his grandmother lives in the area. You cannot walk to anywhere you need transport to get down into the town. Breakfast was ok but very expensive for what it was. $15pp. During our time travelling around Sri Lanka, we never paid much more than 1200 SLR (£3).

Super lovely boutique hotel in Kandy with two of the nicest, most helpful, hosts you will meet. The breakfast was fantastic and the view from the room and communal area was gorgeous. The place was spotlessly clean and I can honestly say I got the best nights sleep I’d had in Sri Lanka while I was there. It was an amazing deal for the price we paid and I can’t recommend it highly enough!
