We spent a few wonderful days at Twin Waters, hosted by Andrew, and the experience was simply magical. Nestled between the river and the sea—less than 100 meters apart—the place is a true haven of peace, surrounded by stunning nature. The nearby village offers an authentic glimpse of local life: fishermen, unpaved streets, children’s dance classes, a small church… And just 2 km away, the bird sanctuary is a true gem for nature lovers. Starting at 6 a.m., the sky comes alive with the graceful flight of beautiful birds—an unforgettable sight. The chalets are well spaced out, offering total privacy. The meals, both Sri Lankan and European-inspired, are delicious and lovingly prepared by Andrew’s attentive team. The staff are incredibly caring, and the fellow guests we met were warm and inspiring, adding even more magic to the stay. A true hidden gem, a timeless escape. Without hesitation: 10/10.

Sri and his team went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The service and kindness were truly exceptional. Worth noting: On our second night, we were offered a complimentary upgrade to the honeymoon room—an all-glass, secluded space perched on a sand dune with an ocean view. Waking up there was truly magical. Sri is also an Ayurvedic master. He gave me an unforgettable full-body treatment, and the next morning, we had a yoga session by the pool. In both activities, he not only demonstrated deep expertise but also explained the underlying principles of Ayurveda in a way that was easy to grasp. I highly recommend trying these. At 5 a.m., they had arranged a fishing trip with local fishermen. Although it was too windy to go out to sea, they adapted the plan and taught us stationary fishing on the beach instead. The fishermen eventually caught some small crabs, which the chef prepared for breakfast—such a unique experience. We really appreciated the opportunity to plant a tree with our name in their garden at the end of our stay. The pool overlooking the ocean was also a highlight. If you're looking for an authentic, thoughtfully curated experience by the ocean—one that also aligns with sustainable, long-term goals—this is the place to go. Sri is happy to explain the sustainability efforts and KPIs behind it all if you're interested in learning more.

A day before the end of our pedal bike expedition. We arrived in Puttalam after pushing against heavy winds for more than 80km. Tired and stinking actually. Bassam, the owner and care taker of Just Inn, spoke and helped us secure the bicycles. Just inn is a kind of AirBnB or simple and beautiful homestay for any tourist. We stayed that night, tidied ourselves. Bassam rode us in his tuk tuk to the salt flats near by and later we went to a one of its- state of the art - kind of small veg hotel for dinner. We both are lifelong vegeterians. Just Inn is a simple and beautiful homestay. Clean and comfortable stay - like a home - one night or 10 nights - the experience is lively. Anyone who wish to stay there can ask Bassam about our endurance journey in SriLanka. Even though we spent very short time there at Bassam’s place.. a strong bonding was made and I think we will remember each other for a lifetime.. Thank you Bassam for everything…

Channa, the owner, is a lovely man. We had a last minute check in with him, and he arranged a spacious, comfortable budget room for the 3 of us. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the food was very good. The staff were all helpful and friendly and the hotel was very clean. Highly recommended.

We should have stayed a few days longer in order to get to know the surroundings a bit better, maybe also take a bus or train up further north on the peninsula. It would be nice to have a bicycle there, as it is all flat and we would have been more independent to look around.
