FAQs about hotels in Mexico City

Aztec Capital and Vibrant Metropolis

As one of the biggest cities in the world, Mexico City could be better described as an experience than a city. Founded in 1325 by the Aztecs as Tenochtitlan, it was both destroyed and rebuilt by the Spanish in the 16th century. Nowadays, it is the capital of the United Mexican States and its most important economic and cultural center.

The city center’s cornerstone is the famous Plaza de la Constitución, commonly called Zócalo. It's surrounded by the presidential Palacio Nacional and the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral.

The Avenida de la Reforma was built under the brief rule of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, while the deposed president Porfirio Díaz left a characteristic fusion of French-Mexican architecture. The 1960s saw a demographic explosion that only now is starting to be completely absorbed.

From the Chapultepec Parks and the chic Polanco, to the gay area of Zona Rosa and the Bohemian and intellectual Coyoacán: let Mexico City tell you its thousand secrets and stories.

Most of the hotels are located around the Reforma area, the Insurgentes Avenue and the Zócalo. If you’re looking for 5-star hotels in Mexico City, the modern Santa Fe area has a recently redeveloped business sector.

I had high expectations but this trip absolutely exceeded any that I could have. I will definitely be coming back soon. Lovely people, amazing street food and a great vibe. It is chaotic and the traffic is terrible, so get the subway or the bike.

Between work and vacations, I've been to Mexico City perhaps...

Between work and vacations, I've been to Mexico City perhaps 10 times, so I feel I have a decent perspective on it. For foodies, fans of art and culture and those who appreciate a mild climate in the winter, CDMX is pretty hard to beat. It's a 5-6 hour flight from anywhere in Canada, only a couple of time zones different at most and a much richer cultural experience than anywhere else I can think of that is remotely similar in terms of convenience. A week-long or even long weekend visit from Canada or the US is completely feasible. The most obvious cultural sites to visit would include the pyramids at Teotehuacán, the National Anthropology Museum, various locations around the city where Diego Rivera's murals can be found (the Ministry of Education exhibit is my favourite), the Frida Kahlo home / museum (plus a walk around Coyoacán and San Ángel while there), the historic centre (including the Zócalo, the Cathedral, the Templo Mayor, the National Palace), Chapultepec Park, a Sunday morning stroll along Reforma (when cars are prohibited). From a location in Condesa or Roma many of these are easily accesible on foot. Uber service is great. Incredible restaurants, from inexpensive comida callejera to pricey and deluxe. And most of all, very nice people in general. There are endless commercial guides online but also quite a few very useful ones provided by the government. In print, I like the Moon Guide.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Mexico City.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Mexico City. In addition to all its rich history and wonderful museums, we discovered that it's also quite a "Foody" city. The food was amazing! We found the smaller stalls at the markets to be very delicious and affordable. We were able to walk everywhere and felt quite safe, especially on the larger streets. Über is also easy to use there.

An amazing city with wonderful smells, sights, sounds, food, and lovely people everywhere. Getting around was easy by walking or ride-share. We were there in November and the weather was perfect and it did not feel crowded despite all the warnings. We loved our day-trip to Teotihaucan, and did a Culinary Backstreets day tour of Xochimilco.

One thing I was warned about and still happened.

One thing I was warned about and still happened. I rode the ‘metro-trolley’ and my wallet was swiped/stolen… I knew better, but the older gentleman that took it was SO NICE, so chatty with me!!! It was until later I figured out it could of only been him that shipped my wallet.., 🤬 I was wearing cargo pants with Velcro ( which I thought was secure due to the Velcro, but I was mistaken!!!

Simply Stunning- The upgrade to the corner suite in the Pyramid Tower was a surprise and an unexpected bonus to a wonderful stay in Mexico City. I'd go as far to say perhaps the best hotel overall I have ever stayed in. Excellent food in the restaurant and brilliant location with the terrace overlooking the cathedral. Room was new, well furnished, very comfortable, clean & exceeded expectations. Staff very hospitable. Thank you.
