The Best Culture and Nightlife this Side of a Canal

Jump on your city bike or hop on a canal boat and admire Amsterdam, the Venice of the North! The beautiful city houses, romantic bridges, iconic canals and street cafés create its unique atmosphere and give you an ultimate taste of its fascinating past.

Famous for its museums, most important of which are located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam offers you a chance to see unforgettable masterpieces by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mondriaan and more. The Anne Frank House is a sobering reminder of the city’s more recent history. After a lot of walking, the Rijksmuseum is a great place to rest and get some extra culture before visiting Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelpark.

The medieval Old Centre with the always busy Dam Square and the tempting Red Light District is the most visited part of Amsterdam. Make sure to stop at Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, homes to the best nightlife venues.

Shop till you drop at Amsterdam’s most luxury shopping street, PC Hooftstraat, the most popular street market at Albert Cuyp or in the fancy design shops of the Jordaan district. Famous pancakes and frites with mayonnaise are a must-try! The more adventurous traveller might want to try the pickled herring, followed closely by a local beer.

All these attractions are just a short train ride from the Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Whether you want to stay at a cosy hotel on a canal, a modern apartment in a quiet part of the city or a room in the centre of everything, Booking.com has a perfect accommodation for your Amsterdam vacation.

As first-time visitors to the city, we were not disappointed. It's a friendly city. Very easy to go by tram or bus to wherever you want to go. A lot of museums to choose from. The Van Gogh museum was amazing! In the center of the city you find bars, shops and churches next to each other. Easy to find restaurants and you must try the local food like 'Bitterballen'

I’ve visited Amsterdam twice now the streets are clean and you feel pretty safe walking about generally even at night time , there’s two sides to Amsterdam , there’s the red light area and coffee shops , then there is the museums , canals , shops good food and history , you just need a few days here , to really get the feel of Amsterdam , it can be expensive , so budget well , using the trains and trams will save a lot of money , using bikes can be a good way to get around or if you simply enjoy walking , few recommendations would be , body worlds museum if that’s your thing , definitely a boat tour around the canals , we always book the open boat on a nice day and it’s just beautiful , if your abit of a thrill seeker can go to a’dam outlook and go on a swing at the top of the building , and of course the Ann frank house , but this needs booking in advice you won’t get a ticket on the day

We loved the canals, the dancing houses, the people of Amsterdam, the amount of bicycles everywhere, the easy to use metro, and the open air markets. The only thing that we didn't care for was the subtle smell of marijuana in the streets around the Centraal Station. But that is part of the Amsterdam experience just like the canals!

Always one of my favorite cities in Europe, clean, friendly and always lots of people enjoying all the things Amsterdam has to offer. Canals, historic buildings, plenty of shops and museums to visit. A canal cruise on a sunny afternoon is something not to be missed, always something new that you have not noticed previously. Loads of Restaurants from many countries from Argentina to Indonesia, Italy to Japan, something to suit every Taste. Another thing not to be missed are classic Dutch French Fries with their very special mayonnaise, or a kaleidoscope of other sauces. Plenty of nightlife with bars to suit every taste and streets of shops selling everything from souvenirs to Primark if you're feeling homesick, and of course the red light district if you are feeling adventurous.

Amsterdam is a must visit city as it has something for almost everyone (not seen much for children) I have now been about 8 times and each time I have a new experience as I uncover a part of the city I have not seen before. There is a hop on hop off bust tour you can take around the city but you must go to Anne Frank's house which is the top attraction in Amsterdam. Trams are everywhere so it is easy to get about and for those who want to feel the wind in their faces you can also hire a bike.

Amsterdam is simply a lovely city, from the water channels to the beautiful architecture. My favorite experience was the tour through the channels. Getting around Amsterdam is very easy, as the city is very well connected with metro, train and other types of transportation options.

Located a few minutes walk from Amsterdam Central Station, surrounded by everything you want or need from restaurants, souvenir shops , coffee shops and even the famous Red Light District. Very friendly and helpful staff. They even have an option for early check in and late check out for a very small fee. Amsterdam is a location I always travel to and XO Hotels City Centre is the only hotel I stay at. If you want the perfect location with friendly and helpful staff this is definitely the place to book.

Generous breakfast buffet set in a funky dining room with comfortable seating. Amsterdam Noord is actually quite a good place to stay in. Not very typical like the city centre but a little cheaper and very easy to get to (2 stops from central station). Tribe is a stone's throw from the Metro station and it's quiet.

Hotel was just a 20 min walk and 3 min ferry ride (free) away from the city centre, extremely convenient! The hotel was also very clean, spacious and looked exactly like the pictures. The staff were all extremely nice and were ready to help us with any issues we faced. Highly recommended place to stay in Amsterdam!
